TL; DR
- ColorOS 17 introduces the Living Flow Design, major performance improvements, and a wider range of AI features.
- AI Mind Pilot, AI Photo Agent, AI Mind Space, OSee, and AI Call Guard headline the new additions.
- The October rollout begins on October 29, 2026, with even two-year-old devices scheduled to receive the update on the same day.
OPPO has unveiled ColorOS 17 in India, bringing a redesigned interface, smoother animations, and a deeper focus on AI. The update also improves memory management, multitasking, photography tools, and privacy across OPPO, OnePlus, and realme devices.
The rollout is moving quickly this time. October-eligible devices are scheduled to receive the update starting October 29, including some models that are already around two years old. The beta program is rolling out today, but applications are now closed.
ColorOS 17 Design and Performance
ColorOS 17 introduces the Living Flow Design, built around Luminous Effects, Fluid Animations, and Flexible Feedback. The interface uses lighting and motion to make interactions feel more dynamic, while updated visual elements give the software a fresh look.

Design and Animations
Luminous Effect introduces translucent materials, soft highlights and lighting that responds to touch. Fluid Motion focuses on smoother transitions between screens and interface states, while Flexible Feedback makes buttons, toolbars and other elements compress and bounce back as you interact with them.

The Living Clock is one of the most noticeable lock screen changes. You can resize it and move it around, and its appearance transitions between the Always-On Display, lock screen and home screen through a continuous animation.

Its position also changes how app icons enter the home screen. Notifications expand with a more gradual clock animation, and you can choose between stacked and list layouts.

The Mountain Way lock screen theme responds to the weather, with changing lighting and dynamic rain and snow effects. ColorOS 17 also updates the media player on the lock screen.

Tapping the Live Capsule expands the player into a more immersive view using the album art from a song, album or playlist. A blur at the top and bottom fills the screen, while the Luminous Effect adds a soft glow to the media player card. The feature works with music apps across the board.

Lock screen shortcuts have new, bouncier animations and a translucent look. Notifications also animate more smoothly when expanded, with the same glow effect used throughout the interface.

The Control Centre has more rounded icons and a redesigned media player with a larger, more immersive album art view. ColorOS 17 also supports playing audio through two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
Performance Improvements
Under the hood, OPPO has introduced a dual-engine architecture combining its rendering and animation systems. The Unified Rendering Architecture reduces rendering workload by up to 30% and RAM usage for rendering by up to 25%, according to the company.

The Laminar Flow Engine focuses on app launches and multitasking. OPPO claims app launch stability improves by 55%, Gallery thumbnails load up to 50% faster on the first launch, and more than 25% additional apps can remain in the background.

System memory reserves are also reduced by up to 18%, contributing to a claimed 15% improvement in overall performance.

OPPO says its six-year simulation showed that ColorOS 17 retained more than 90% of its smoothness even when storage was 90% full. These figures are based on OPPO’s internal testing.
ColorOS 17 AI Features
AI Mind Pilot
AI Mind Pilot is ColorOS 17’s agent-based assistant, designed to carry out tasks across local files and photos. It can find travel pictures, sort and rename files, create albums, and make vlog covers. It can also turn brainstorming notes into presentations and use travel tickets or reservations to build an itinerary.

The feature initially supports ChatGPT and Manus, with users able to connect their own accounts. OPPO says Manus support for processing local files and photos will arrive in a later update.
AI Photo Agent
AI Photo Agent makes photo editing more flexible through prompt-based edits and Style Match. Users can apply a particular look and adjust its intensity with a slider, while AI tools handle object edits, portrait retouching, lighting, color, image quality, and recomposition.

The system uses six specialized models to handle these editing tasks. It can also use depth information to recreate lighting effects. AI Photo Agent works with static images, and availability and usage limits may vary by region.
AI Mind Space
AI Mind Space acts as a central place to save useful information, including documents, bills, articles, and video links. Its Memory Collections feature can organize saved material into summaries containing text, images, tables, and maps.

This can be particularly useful when planning a trip. Instead of manually going through saved links and documents, users can bring relevant information together into a single collection.
AI Mind Suggest
AI Mind Suggest surfaces information based on context on your home screen widget. In India, it can show MakeMyTrip train cards with schedules, booking status, live updates, and PNR information. It can also recommend Spotify content when compatible headphones are connected.

OSee
OSee adds visual AI tools to the camera experience. It can recognize objects and provide information about them, identify birds, estimate the calories in food, and help users check for potential allergens. The feature also supports document scanning and translation.

AI Live Interpreter
AI Live Interpreter supports real-time translation through compatible OPPO Enco X4 and OnePlus Buds Pro 4 earbuds on select ColorOS 17 devices. The feature is designed to make conversations across languages easier without requiring users to keep checking their phone.

AI Call Guard
AI Call Guard can detect synthetic voices and AI-generated face swaps during calls, helping users identify potential scams. OPPO says the feature is available in India.

Privacy
ColorOS 17 also introduces Private Computing Cloud, which uses end-to-end encryption and a secure processing environment designed to prevent third-party access, including access by OPPO. The system adds post-quantum protection for data in transit.

A new Transparency Report records the services used and the operations performed. Users can view or export the report to better understand how their data is being handled.
