Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel XXL Leaks Timeline

September 20, 2017: Google’s Pixel 2XL and Pixel 2, is going to cost you around $849, roughly to 55,000 INR, and $649, roughly to 42,000, respectively, a source confirmed it to us. Since both the phones will come in 64GB and 128GB variant, prices may vary, accordingly.

Also, both the phones will arrive in multiple colors – Pixel 2 in Just Black, Clearly White, and Kinda Blue, whereas Pixel 2XL in Black & White and Just Black.

September 15, 2017: A Google Bill Board confirms that next generation Pixel phones – Pixel 2, Pixel 2XL – will launch on October 4.

August 25, 2017: A reliable source has revealed that Google may do the unveiling of the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 on October 5. Last year too, the company unveiled its Pixel smartphones at the same time.

August 4, 2017: It has been tipped to us that Google’s Pixel 2, Pixel XL 2 may not feature the 3.5mm audio jack and rely on Bluetooth and the USB Type-C port for audio playback.

July 24, 2017: New news trickles in regarding the phone, which says that it may flaunt Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 836 chipset.

July 12, 2017: An image claiming to feature the accurate representation of the next Pixel smartphone (Taimen) appears, showing a curved rear, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a LG-made 6-inch AMOLED display, 3D glass, and a design with minimal bezels and rounded corners, amongst others.

June 27, 2017: More information about the phone appears, trying to foretell the specifications they would sport. Taimen is supposedly coming with a 5.99-inch display (1440p resolution), OLED display, 4GB RAM, 128GB ROM and Snapdragon 835 processor.

For Walleye, the expected specifications are a 4.97-inch FHD display, stereo speakers at the front, 64GB storage, and no 3.5mm audio jack (there is an expected USB Type-C audio port, though).

June 13, 2017: Reportedly, LG will replace HTC as the manufacturer for the ‘Taimen’ smartphone. Also, this could have something to do with Google wanting to use LG’s OLED display for their own phones.

June 12, 2017: Another GeekBench appears, this time of a phone christened ‘Pixel XL2’, that speaks of the phone containing a 5.5-inch display, Android 7.1.1, 100GB storage, 4GB RAM, 12MP (back) and 8MP (front) camera.

June 7, 2017: A new leak has emerged that includes an image of a smartphone (more a work of photoshop than a credible one), which shows a near bezel-less display and design along the same lines as the original duo.

Furthermore, it depicts a dual camera setup at the back, and puts the processor to be a Snapdragon 836 one (which is currently under works).

May 12, 2017: A GeekBench listing of Taimen pops up, claiming that the device would come running on Android O OS and be powered by a 1.9GHz octa-core processor of Qualcomm make.

April 25, 2017: This marked the first ever breakthrough into the possible specifications of the smartphones, saying that the three would be powered by the then yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 835 chipset.

Pixel 2 Concept Design

March 15, 2017: News emerges that the new Pixel range has the codenames Muskie and Walleye (for the smaller and bigger model, respectively), continuing the company’s tradition of nicknaming phones after species of fishes.

March 3, 2017: At the MWC held in Barcelona, Rick Osterloh, then stated that Google is looking to release next smartphone after the completion of a one-year cycle (similar to Apple).

January 27, 2017: Reportedly, the next Pixel smartphones, then identified as Pixel 2 and 2B getting readied, would cater to two different price ranges.

Further, it says that the two may be water resistant, something the original ones were not. The choice of processor to be used is divided between Intel and Snapdragon 83X chips.
