Adding an extra camera sensor has proved to be an effective way to compensate for smartphone photography constraints in 2017. The Oppo F3 and Nubia Z17 Mini, belong to the still rare dual camera phone club priced under 20,000 INR, and each of them uses the extra sensor in a very different way. Both of them belong to the same price bracket and thus it should be interesting to pitch them against one another. Let’s compare the hardware used on both devices to estimate which one should be a better option for particular needs.

Design and Build
The Oppo F3 follows a safe design approach and feels very conventional. It’s a hair slimmer than the Nubia Z17 Mini, and has a bigger 5.5-inch display. The Nubia Z17 Mini, on the other hand, feels more premium with a full metal back, and harmonious red accent on the camera and home button. The 5.2-inch display size should further ensure that it’s relatively easier to wield. Both phones have 2.5D glass on the front and have almost the same weight and thickness.

An important differentiating factor is the positioning of the fingerprint sensor. The Oppo F3 has it integrated with the front home button, which is where we find it to be more convenient, but you might prefer the rear-mounted arrangement on the Nubia Z17 Mini instead.
Display
Both of these phones offer a full HD screen, but since the Nubia Z17 mini has a smaller display size, it feels sharper. It’s also a tad better in terms of white balance, contrast and dynamic range. The Oppo F3 also benefits from a tougher Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Nubia Z17 Mini too has Gorilla Glass protection, but the exact version hasn’t been revealed.
Performance, Battery, and Software
Oppo F3 has the same entry-grade MT6750 octa-core chipset as the OPPO F1s. In comparison, the ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini employs a much more powerful Snapdragon 652 processor, paired the same amount of RAM. The F3, however, benefits from a dedicated MicroSD card slot. But since both phones have 64GB of native space, the dedicated slot privilege won’t mean much to most people. If you are a heavy user, the Nubia Z17 Mini shall prove to be a faster and more capable performer.
On the software front, both phones have Android Marshmallow as the base software, hidden under heavy layers of customization. Which one you’d prefer would be a matter of individual taste and preferences. We, for one, like Nubia’s software skin a tad better.
The Oppo F3 has a slightly bigger battery and a more power efficient chipset. Which means that it’s expected to last a tad longer.
Camera
The dual camera setup on the Oppo F3 is used for capturing wide-angle selfies or groufies. If you want to fit more people in the image frame or if you need to include the image backdrop in your selfies, you can conveniently do so by switching to the wide-angle mode in the camera app. The 13MP rear camera does a fine job too.
The ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini also has the best performing cameras in its class. It houses two Sony sensors on the rear – one color and one monochrome. Together, the two can capture more light and thus the images show better details. The front 16MP camera is also a good performer.

Verdict
The Oppo F3 is a phone meant for selfie enthusiasts and people who’d rather purchase from offline stores. If you are comfortable buying online, the Nubia Z17 Mini should prove to be a better option with better hardware and performance.
