TL; DR
  • In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman mentions how the “company has been planning an announcement of the new Siri in the second half of February, when it will give demonstrations of the functionality.”
  • After the February demonstration, Apple plans to release the Gemini-powered Siri with iOS 26.4. Apple could seed the beta builds of the update in February, while the public release could take place in March or early April.
  • At WWDC 2026, Apple could reveal more advanced Siri features, moving closer to a true conversational AI assistant.
  • Finally, all the build-up, which begins in February (initial demos), goes through the first public version in March, WWDC 2026 (more advanced features), and the first public betas with those features, could culminate in iOS 27.

Apple is preparing to debut its most ambitious revamp of Siri yet, one that leans heavily on Google’s Gemini AI models, designed to bring true generative-AI smarts to Apple’s in-house voice assistant.

After years of incremental improvements and scattered AI features, 2026 looks like the year when Siri finally gets the upgrade users have been waiting for.

Apple’s Biggest Siri Upgrade Yet Is Finally Taking Shape

In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman mentions how the “company has been planning an announcement of the new Siri in the second half of February, when it will give demonstrations of the functionality.”

The reveal might not be a huge press keynote; it could be a smaller media briefing or a staged demonstration. However, it will definitely be the first time that Apple users get a real look at a revamped Siri.

It could focus on context-aware personal assistant features, including those that understand what is on the screen and pull in relevant information based on it. It should also be the first time that Apple addresses developers regarding the massive Siri upgrade.

iOS 26.4: When the First Gemini-Powered Siri Features Reach Users

After the February demonstration, Apple plans to release the Gemini-powered Siri with iOS 26.4. Apple could seed the beta builds of the update in February, while the public release could take place in March or early April.

Hence, this could be the time when the first wave of Gemini-powered Siri features arrives on iPhones and iPads. The batch should include smarter contextual responses, more natural language understanding, deeper integration with apps like Mail and Calendar, and longer, more informative answers than older versions.

However, iOS 26.4 will probably be the first step in Siri’s complete overhaul; not all AI-powered features will be included in the update. Some of the advanced features could be showcased at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2026.

WWDC 2026: Siri Takes a Big Leap Toward Conversational AI

At WWDC 2026, Apple could reveal more advanced Siri features, moving closer to a true conversational AI assistant. They could include back-and-forth dialogue (similar to Gemini Live), a better understanding of long-term context and memory, proactive suggestions, and deeper integrations across iPhone, iPads, and Mac software.

In a nutshell, it could be that, at WWDC 2026, Siri goes beyond simple commands toward AI chatbot behaviour. Following the event, Apple could start pushing out developer and public betas of the features. It is in that time frame, between summer and fall, that Siri’s deeper conversational AI features could be made available to public beta testers.

iOS 27 and the Final Act of Apple’s Siri Transformation

Finally, all the build-up, which begins in February (initial demos), goes through the first public version in March, WWDC 2026 (more advanced features), and the first public betas with those features, could culminate in iOS 27. Apple’s next iPhone operating system could debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in September 2027.

By that time, Siri should act more like a chatbot, support conversational interactions, handle complex queries and multi-step tasks, and generate content as well.

To Summarize…

  • February is a preview/demo: a taste of what’s coming and a chance to show off the new AI tech before it ships.
  • March/April (iOS 26.4) is the first rollout of the new Siri features to users.
  • June (WWDC) is a deeper reveal: showing off more advanced AI and future Siri direction.
  • After WWDC, the broader public gets to test deeper features in a beta.
  • September (iOS 27) will deliver the major full-AI Siri upgrade to everyone.

For years, Siri has lagged behind rivals like Google Assistant and ChatGPT-style bots in generative AI capabilities. By tapping Google’s Gemini models under the hood, Apple aims to finally bring Siri into the same league, while still preserving its own privacy-focused approach.
