Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker, launched Redmi 5A, aka as Desh Ka Smartphone, in India. After teasing the entry-grade phone for a couple of weeks, the company finally took the wraps off at an online event.
The Redmi 5A is the successor of Redmi 4A and carries some minor improvements from it. Unlike Redmi 4A, it sports a metal unibody design and still doesn’t feature a fingerprint sensor. Also, the phone has dedicated sim-card slot and runs on company's latest MIUI 9 out of the box.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch display with 1280×720 pixels resolution. Underneath the display, the Redmi 5A rocks on quad-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 425 chipset which is aided by Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of expandable storage, same as the Redmi 4A.
In optics, the Redmi 5A gets a 13MP primary sensor with F2.0 aperture, LED flash and phase detection autofocus (PDAF), whereas, for the front camera, it has 5-megapixel selfie shooter with LED flash. Now, the sensor of the front camera may be the same as the Redmi 4A, but the 5A has a slightly wider aperture lens, f/2.0 vs f/2.2.
The dual-sim Redmi 5A is backed by 3,000 mAh battery, which company claims can last up to 8 days, and runs MIUI 9 based Android Nougat out of the box.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A has been best priced in India at Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 6,999 for its two variants and you can purchase the device exclusively on Flipkart. You can also subscribe to Smartprix notification to get all the updates and deals on the Redmi 5A smartphone.
