After Using for a complete one year on iOS 10, 11 and 12.
December 2018. I bought this phone in September 2017 @ ₹20,000 on Flipkart during sale. This is normally priced at ₹23,000. Recently, during sale in October-November 2018 on Amazon and Flipkart, the phone was priced at ₹19,000. First of all, iPhone 6 was released in September 2014 and after four years this is still not a bad choice to buy. Though it won’t compete with android phones in the same price range but it will be perfect for you if your usage is restricted to certain low graphic intensive apps. 1. BUILD QUALITY: 9/10. Metal body and very slim and light weight (just 129 grams). It feels premium while holding in the hand. Build quality is just woww. 2. DISPLAY: 7/10. In ₹20,000 price range the display is just awesome. There are numerous android phones in ₹20k price range which have notch display. It’s upto you that you need a “notch display phone” or a “4-year old iPhone 6”. I would still buy that iPhone if I need to buy one today without considering notchy display. 3. PROCESSOR and RAM: 6.5/10. The phone doesn’t take too much time to open the apps. The stock apps (Messages, Contacts, Photos, Settings, etc.) open smoothly but third party apps (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) take a slightly more time which depends on the app itself. But it’s not like that you’ve to wait for a very long period. RAM is only 1GB. You would wonder that 1GB RAM is too less to handle apps as happens on android phones. But it’s not. The performance of phone was slightly increased on updating it from iOS 11 to iOS12. But there is a slightly reduction in battery backup. Recommendation: Better to buy iPhone SE or iPhone 6s for better performance and more RAM. 4. GAMING: 6/10. I am playing PUBG on this phone but on low-qualiy graphics. It runs smoothly. But this phone is not meant to play heavy games. Games below 1 GB size works fine. I play Shadow Fight 3 which is about 1.5+GB in size but runs smoothly in high quality graphics. Recommendation: Buy iPhone SE or iPhone 6s for better gaming experience. 5. REAR CAMERA: 8/10. Don’t get fooled by “megapixel thing”. Camera’s quality depends on too many things. It has 8MP rear camera and is awesome. Pictures are of decent quality and colours are somewhat true. Though it lacks “fake-bokeh-thing”, doesn’t mean the pictures are dull. You’ll get AI cameras in other android phones in this price range. Stabilisation (EIS) is good. Recommendation: Buy iPhone SE or iPhone 6s for better camera. 6. FRONT CAMERA: 4/10. If you are a selfie lover, then this is surely not your thing. 1.2MP front camera. I don’t know it’s aperture. The pictures have more noise. 7. BATTERY: 6/10. During first few months of usage, batteru backup was just normal. But now battery drains fastly. If you are a heavy user and play games all day and frequently open apps every minute, then you have to charge the battery twice or thrice a day. The phone gives a battery backup of about 4 hours of continous usage of certain basic apps including browsing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and watching Youtube videos, etc. While on continuously playing PUBG, the battery lasts for nearly 2 hours. 8. OPERATING SYSTEM: 9/10. It depends on your taste. I would hardly switch to android in future. iOS is clean. If you are new to iOS, you’ll find hard to get used to as happened with a few of my colleagues. After a certain period you will find your taste. Moreover, you’ll get software updates regularly upto 4-5 years of phone release. iPhone 6 when released in 2014 came with iOS 8 and it’s still upgradable upto latest iOS 12 (as of December 2018. I don’t know if it still gets next iOS 13 or not) 9. OTHER FEATURES: Fingerprint Scanner: Not very fast. OVERALL: If you are a “Apple guy” and only want an iPhone and that in ₹20,000 range in 2018 (or maybe 2019) then I won’t recommend you this phone because Apple’s other two iPhones are better than this: 1. iPhone SE priced at around ₹14,000 has better processor and camera and lower price. But it comes small display size. Gaming is better on iPhone SE than iPhone 6 but not great. 2. iPhone 6s priced at around ₹25,000 is better than iPhone 6 in performance camera and some other features. Though it’s ₹5000 more than iPhone 6, but believe me it’s worth it.
