Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xring O3, its latest in-house smartphone chipset and a major step in the company’s push to reduce dependence on Qualcomm and MediaTek. The new processor is built using TSMC’s 3nm process and is expected to power Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship foldable phone.
Xiaomi Xring O3: What’s New?
The Xring O3 is a flagship-grade SoC that combines CPU, GPU, AI processing, imaging and other key functions into a single chip. Xiaomi says the processor features a 10-core CPU and a 16-core G2-Ultra NX GPU.
According to Xiaomi’s performance evaluation, the Xring O3 delivers 25% higher CPU performance than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 while consuming 25–26% less power. The company also claims the chip scored more than 5.22 million points on AnTuTu, making it the first mobile SoC to cross the five-million mark.
The O3 is also Xiaomi’s first mobile chipset to support LPDDR6 memory, with bandwidth of up to 113.8GB/s. Xiaomi 18 Fold Gets the Xring O3
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xring O3 will power the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold, which is scheduled to launch in China in September. Reports indicate that Xiaomi is targeting between 200,000 and 300,000 units of the O3-powered foldable.
This limited rollout suggests Xiaomi is using the foldable as an important test bed for its custom silicon rather than immediately replacing third-party chips across its entire smartphone lineup.
A Bigger Push Into Custom Silicon
The Xring O3 is part of a wider chip strategy. Xiaomi has also introduced the Xring O100 for AI workloads and the Xring D100 for intelligent driving. Reuters reports that Xiaomi has invested more than 20 billion yuan in its chip development efforts so far.

For Xiaomi, the Xring O3 is therefore about more than raw performance. It marks another step toward controlling the hardware and software experience of its premium devices.
