TL;DR
- Optimist launches a competitively priced, high-efficiency 1.4-ton inverter AC for Indian summers.
- Advanced engineering enables stable cooling up to 50°C, with features like Turbo+ mode and a real-time gas indicator.
- Five-year comprehensive warranty and IIT Delhi partnership set it apart from established AC brands.
With summer temperatures in India now regularly exceeding 45°C, the need for efficient and affordable air conditioning is more pressing than ever. Optimist, a new Indian brand, has introduced a 1.4-ton 5-star inverter split AC at Rs 39,990. This positions it among the most competitively priced high-efficiency ACs currently available.
The unit is rated at 6.05 ISEER, which Optimist states is among the highest for consumer split ACs in India. According to the company, this could mean 25–35% lower electricity use compared to standard models. While these efficiency claims await independent verification, long-term running costs are often more significant for buyers than the initial price, especially over several years of use.
Price and availability
The launch price of Rs 39,990 reflects a 38% discount from the MRP of Rs 65,000, with no announced end date for this offer. Sales began on May 20, 2026, through Amazon, Optimist’s website, and its experience stores. The initial rollout covers Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Jaipur, with the first physical store now open in Gurugram. One-ton and two-ton models are expected later this year.

What makes it different
Three engineering decisions stand out from the spec sheet.
First, the AC uses a microchannel heat exchanger and a twin-rotary inverter compressor, designed to maintain stable cooling even when outdoor temperatures reach 50°C. Most standard ACs lose efficiency well before this point.
Second, a Turbo+ mode temporarily increases cooling output to match that of a 1.9-ton unit, allowing for faster cooling without the need to purchase a larger or more costly AC.
Third, the AC includes a built-in gas-level indicator that shows real-time refrigerant status. Undetected gas leaks are a common issue in India, often only noticed after cooling performance drops. A visible indicator addresses this problem directly, and is rarely found at this price point.
The companion app supports remote control, energy monitoring, filter health tracking, and predictive service alerts.

Warranty
Optimist provides a five-year comprehensive warranty that covers key components and gas charging for eligible failures, along with a 10-year compressor warranty. Most brands in this segment offer only one to two years of comprehensive coverage. The extended warranty is a clear differentiator, but its value depends on the strength of the service network.

Optimist was founded in 2024 by Ashish Goel and Pranav Chopra. The company has spent 18 months co-developing the product with IIT Delhi on thermal engineering and validation, and has raised $12 million to fund manufacturing, R&D, and expansion of service infrastructure.

The Indian AC market is led by established brands like Voltas, Daikin, LG, and Samsung, each with extensive distribution and service networks. Optimist is taking a different approach, focusing on efficiency and engineering tailored for Indian conditions. This strategy has proven effective for new entrants in related sectors. With 2026 setting new temperature records across several states, the demand for efficient air conditioning is at an all-time high.

The product launch is backed by coherent specifications and the IIT Delhi partnership, which lends credibility to the efficiency claims. The main challenge will be service delivery. Optimist is beginning with four cities and its own installation and service teams. The speed and quality of service expansion will determine if the brand can sustain its early momentum.
