Update 31-03-2016: Xiaomi Mi5 has been officially launched in India for 24,999 INR. Unfortunately, only the base variant with slightly under-clocked Snapdragon 820 and 32GB storage has been launched in India

Xiaomi’s grand Mi5 is now official. As expected its loaded with sparkling set of hardware for a very reasonable price, and Snapdragon 820 leads the march. What’s missing is QHD resolution on the display, but considering the compact 5.15-inch display size, that shouldn’t matter much, especially in light of battery gain that comes along.

The Xiaomi Mi5 will be available in three different storage variants, each having Snapdragon 820 clocked at different frequency. The three variants have been priced at 1999 RBM, 2299 RBM and 2699 RBM respectively.

Only the top end variant comes with 4GB RAM. Unfortunately, this top end variant has a ceramic back cover, 128GB storage and will be available as a limited edition device.

Rather than specs, the new Mi 5 is more about the way it looks. On the outside, the Mi5 has a metallic side frame, a 3D curved glass on the front (that seamlessly merges to side metal frame) and a curved glass back for efficient grip. The fingerprint sensor has been clubbed with the physical home button. It’s quite slim at 7.25 mm and incredibly light at 129 grams. You could accuse it of being a mishmash between iPhone 6S and Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and you won’t be completely out of place either.

Another talking point here is the camera hardware. Xiaomi’s top brass has been teasing images captured from the handset for several weeks now, that is to say the Mi5 is being marketed as a camera centric handset.

On the rear side, there is 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, 4-axis OIS, 4K video recording support, DTI pixel isolation technology, and Spectra image processor. The front 4MP selfie shooter has large 2 micrometer pixel size to capture more light for indoor selfies.

The 3000 mAh battery inside supports Quick Charge 3.0. Other features include 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C port. Take a look at complete set of hardware specifications below.
