Xiaomi CEO caught using an iPhone on social media

It’s not surprising to see an iPhone in the hands of powerful executives but it gets a tad embarrassing when these executives lead other smartphone companies. The latest to join the club is Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, who was caught red-handed on Weibo posting via iPhone.

Lei Jun posted a picture of a few books on Weibo with a caption to encourage followers to buy. The Mi fans got upset noticing the post was made by an iPhone. The executive might have forgotten the fact that Weibo automatically detects the device used for the post. In the past, this fact has been helpful in learning about upcoming devices as brand officials, intentionally and unintentionally, often use unreleased phones for Weibo postings.

However, Lei Jun immediately pulled down his post and did a repost using Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. In his defense, another official of Xiaomi, Pan Jiutang, said that executives of other companies who claim of not using competitor phones are hypocritical and incompetent. He further explained that it is a strategy to improve their own product while comparing it with frontline innovations.

Realme India CEO, Madhav Sheth, gave a similar defense a few months back after he was spotted tweeting from an iPhone. And back then Xiaomi India employees gave him a tough time for the slip.

Apart from Madhav Seth, executives of other brands and even their social media pages have been spotted posting from iPhones. The list includes Ren Zhengfei- Huawei Founder, CEO, and Li Nan- former VP of Meizu.

Using an iPhone as a primary phone would have perhaps been passable if Chinese manufacturers hadn’t compared their flagships and even affordable phones against the latest iPhones on event stages, projecting their phones as superior, every single time.
