The Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is working on two new features. Known WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo has spotted these features in development, one of which is rolling out for the web beta version of the app. While one feature lets users search a message by date, the other is a view count for posts in Channels. Here’s everything you need to know about the two new WhatsApp features.

For its web client, WhatsApp is working on a “search message by date” feature. Per WABetaInfo, it is rolling out for WhatsApp Web Beta version 2.2348.50, available to some testers. The feature lets users search for messages on a particular day by entering the date. When it rolls out for everyone, it will enable users to search for a conversation more efficiently if they remember the date.

The updates tracker also shares a screenshot of the feature in action, which shows a calendar button. Upon clicking it, users see a calendar panel where they can select a date. Moreover, the date-based message filter could be helpful, especially for professionals who need to refer to messages from any given day. As mentioned, the feature is available to beta users of the web client, but soon, it should roll out to all users.

Channels Could Soon Get A Views Counter

In another update, the messaging platform is also working to add a views counter on updates in Channels. WABetaInfo seems to have shared another screenshot that shows a views counter at the bottom of a Channel update beside the timestamp. This could benefit media organizations or businesses that use the feature to gauge the viewership of the updates they push in WhatsApp channels. From another vantage point, the feature could also help users determine the number of members who’ve enabled notifications.

The view counter will be available for both admins and members of a WhatsApp channel. At the moment, the Channel view counter is under development, and it isn’t even available for beta testers. Hence, the platform could take some time before releasing it for everyone, as it would like to test it once the development is complete. Those were the two WhatsApp features currently under development. Stay tuned for more updates about the latest WhatsApp features.
