We have been discussing Vivo’s upcoming foldable device for the past few weeks. Last year, vivo introduced the vivo X Fold 3 and vivo X Fold 3 Pro, which means this year should have seen the launch of the vivo X Fold 4. However, the company has reportedly chosen to omit the number 4 from its lineup. This decision aligns with a common practice in Chinese culture, where the number 4 is often avoided due to its phonetic resemblance to the word for ‘death.’ Consequently, the vivo X Fold 5 is set to debut in China shortly. Additionally, tipster DGC recently shared some of its key specifications on Weibo.

The tipster also shares some of the key specs for the next-generation foldable. vivo X Fold 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and pack a large 6000mAh+ battery, along with supporting wireless charging. It will feature a 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto lens at the back, and the camera module will retail Vivo’s signature large circular layout, positioning it as a design-centric imaging flagship.

At the front, it will feature two 20MP selfie cameras placed on the cover and internal displays respectively. This is different from a recent report that claimed two 32MP selfie sensors for the X Fold 5.

Vivo will announce the exact date of launch depending on the internal progress of the foldable. Vivo might launch X Fold 5 Pro as well, but there’s no word on it so far.
