Vivo APEX with Snapdragon 845 and ‘Half-Screen’ Fingerprint Sensor Announced

0

Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo made history yet again by announcing its APEX phone with an active in-display fingerprint sensor in almost half of its screen. This makes it only the second device to sport an optical fingerprint sensor (the first bring Vivo X20 Plus UD), and the first to have it accessible from more than one point.

The other major highlights of the phone include Qualcomm’s mighty Snapdragon 845 SoC, full vision display, retracting selfie camera, and dual-rear camera setup.

Vivo APEX Features

The magic of Vivo APEX lies on its 5.99-inch OLED display, it sports up front. The multi-functional display comes with COF technology, 98 percent screen-to-body aspect ratio, and an in-display fingerprint sensor placed on the entire bottom half of the screen.

The firm managed to shave the extra-bezels by placing the earpiece and all the other sensors like proximity and ambient beneath the display. It just has 1.8mm bezels on three sides and 4.3mm at the bottom. The front camera pops up from the top of the phone in just 0.8 seconds when the camera is turned on.

The in-display fingerprint sensor works exactly like the Vivo X20 Plus UD. You place your finger on the display and it will authenticate it. However, the difference in the APEX phone is that the optical sensor is on the entire bottom half of the screen, thus enabling the user to authenticate more freely and easily.

For photography, we don’t know what sensors Vivo is using on its APEX phone, but what we do know is that the camera supports Super HDR mode, smart optimization, multi-frame compositing, multi-frame preferences, natural tones, character optimizations, and advanced AI Algorithm.

In addition, the phone is going to be a treat for audiophiles. Vivo has bundled its APEX device with ‘System in Package’ (SIP) technology, offering Hi-Fi audio along with three amplifiers and DAC. Sadly, there is no information related to storage, RAM, camera configurations, and battery capacity yet.

Vivo APEX Price and Availability

Vivo has unveiled its APEX phone in its home soil, China, which means it will be available for sale there, first. The Vivo APEX price and availability have not been disclosed, but it is expected to go on sale by the second-half of this year.
