Qualcomm has introduced its latest flagship mobile processors, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 at the Snapdragon Summit 2026. The new chips will power the next generation of premium Android smartphones, with Qualcomm adopting a two-tier flagship strategy this year.
Both processors are built using a 2nm manufacturing process and bring upgrades across CPU performance, graphics, artificial intelligence, cameras and connectivity. Qualcomm is also placing a much bigger emphasis on running advanced AI models directly on smartphones.

Snapdragon Goes Past the 5GHz Mark
One of the biggest upgrades on the new Snapdragon chip is the new Qualcomm Oryon CPU. Both chips feature two Prime cores running at up to 5GHz, alongside six Performance cores clocked at up to 4GHz. Qualcomm says these are the first smartphone processors in the market to hit the 5GHz clockspeed mark.
Compared with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 delivers around 10 percent higher CPU performance, while the Extreme version improves performance by up to 13 percent. CPU power efficiency improves by up to 37 percent.

Extreme Variant Gets More Powerful Graphics
Qualcomm has also upgraded their Adreno GPU architecture on the new 8 Elite Gen 6 series. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 promises up to 35 percent better graphics performance, while the Extreme version raises that figure to 44 percent. Both are claimed to offer around 40 percent better GPU power efficiency.
The Extreme chip additionally gets dedicated Adreno Matrix Cores and 18MB of high-performance graphics memory.
These Matrix Cores power Adreno Neural Fusion, which uses AI for features such as super-resolution and frame generation while gaming. Qualcomm claims the technology can reduce power consumption by up to 40 percent in supported games.
Bigger Push Towards On-Device AI
Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the 8 elite Extreme Gen 6 processors feature an upgraded Hexagon NPU with a new Element Accelerator designed for transformer and generative AI workloads.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 goes further with 50 percent more shared memory. Qualcomm says this enables smartphones to run Mixture-of-Experts AI models with more than 30 billion parameters locally, instead of relying entirely on cloud processing. It also supports context windows of up to 32,000 tokens.

The idea is to enable more capable AI assistants that can understand personal context, work across apps and complete more tasks directly on the device without the need for a cloud.
Major Camera and Video Upgrades
The new Spectra ISP improves how AI processes individual pixels and subjects within an image. However, some of the biggest video upgrades are reserved for the Extreme variant.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K video recording at 60fps and 4K slow-motion video at 240fps, along with APV professional video recording and hardware decoding for the VVC/H.266 codec.
Faster 5G and Next-Gen Connectivity
Both processors use Qualcomm’s new X105 5G modem, with support for 3GPP Release 19, satellite connectivity and theoretical download speeds of up to 14.8Gbps. They also support Wi-Fi connectivity through Qualcomm’s FastConnect platform.
Qualcomm says smartphones powered by the new chips will start arriving globally in the coming weeks. Xiaomi has already confirmed its Xiaomi 18 series for China which features both chips, while Motorola’s Signature 27 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with a planned launch later in the year.
