Quick Verdict
The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless stands out as one of the most complete premium wireless headphones under Rs 40,000 in India. The warm, rich midrange brings Bollywood vocals and Hindi film music to life. Sennheiser promises 57 hours of battery life, and you can swap the battery yourself. No other brand offers that at this price. The ANC works well and is improved, but Sony and Bose still do it better.
Buy it if:
- You want rich, expressive sound for Bollywood, Hindi pop, and English music.
- You want long battery life and to replace the battery yourself after years of use.
- You take a lot of calls and want natural, wind-resistant voice pickup.
- aptX Lossless, multipoint, Snapdragon Sound, and wired USB-C 24/96 are on your checklist
- You want a daily driver under Rs 40,000 that can last five-plus years.
Skip it if:
- Best-in-class ANC is your top requirement (Sony WH-1000XM6 and Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen lead there)
- You need a neutral, audiophile-reference tuning (the Sennheiser HDB 630 exists for that at Rs 79,990)
- A foldable, compact design is non-negotiable for frequent travel.
Last year, I spent Rs 34,990 on wireless headphones. Eighteen months later, the battery holds about 60 percent of its original charge. The service center quoted Rs 6,000 to fix it, but the brand doesn’t sell a replacement battery. Most buyers have faced this problem, or will soon.
Sennheiser addresses that problem with the Momentum 5 Wireless, priced at Rs 39,990 in India. You get a 700mAh battery you can swap yourself in minutes. The sound beats anything else at this price. The battery outlasts every direct rival. It also delivers the codecs and features Android users in India want. The real question is whether it does enough in every area to justify the price over Sony, Bose, or Apple.
I tested the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless in Delhi-NCR for several days to find out.

Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Sound
Does the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless sound good? Yes. The midrange stands out at this price.
The first thing I noticed when I put these on and played a classic Bollywood track was the vocal placement. They came across forward, warm, and textured in a way that cheaper headphones compress into mush. Male vocals from golden-era playback artists carry genuine body and weight. Contemporary Hindi pop singers sound expressive, not shrill. That midrange character stays consistent across genres and makes long listening sessions enjoyable, not exhausting.
English music sounds warm and a bit relaxed on the Momentum 5 Wireless. Acoustic and singer-songwriter tracks are detailed and spacious. Electronic music has enough sub-bass to feel full, but it never gets boomy. Treble rolls off above 10kHz, which keeps sibilance in check but also softens some sparkle on hi-hats and cymbals.

The default tuning has a clear bass shelf that adds punch to high-energy tracks and dance numbers. If you want less bass, the 8-band EQ in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app lets you adjust it. Check whether the bass boost toggle in the app is on before judging the sound. It may be active by default, and turning it off reveals the headphone’s real character. Some mid-heavy tracks have a slight bump in the 1kHz to 2.5kHz range, but it doesn’t get in the way during normal listening.

For movies, I used a wired USB-C connection at 24-bit / 96kHz, and the jump in quality over Bluetooth was clear. Dialogue sounded clearer and fuller, background scores felt richer, and low-frequency effects had more texture. Dolby Atmos added width to the soundstage. Head tracking will come later through a firmware update. For OTT streaming over Bluetooth, the experience stayed strong, especially in dialogue-heavy scenes where the midrange clarity really helped.
The distortion performance is also worth highlighting. Technical measurements from multiple reviews rate it as extremely low for a wireless headphone at this price, which contributes to the sound’s non-fatiguing, long-session character.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Design and Build
Is the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless well-built? It looks refined, but the earcups feel plastic for the price.
The headphone stands out visually, especially in Denim Blue. The fabric headband feels premium and gives the Momentum 5 a subtle, upmarket look that sets it apart from other brands’ glossy finishes. The earcups feel like plastic in hand, which is disappointing at this price.

The Momentum 5 doesn’t fold. It lays flat, which works for home storage, but the carrying case is wider than most rivals. At 290g, it’s heavier than the Sony WH-1000XM6 at 254g. Four Philips screws on the left earcup let you access the replaceable battery. No rival offers this design.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Fit and Comfort
Are the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless comfortable to wear? Yes, they stay comfortable even during extended listening sessions.
The 290g weight sounds high on paper, but I didn’t feel discomfort while using them. The clamping force is just right. It stays secure without causing pressure. I wore these for a two-hour film and never felt my ears get squashed.

After about an hour, some mild warmth builds up around the ears. That’s normal for closed-back over-ear headphones, but keep it in mind for Indian summers.
The ear cup padding is soft and wraps comfortably around the ear without pressing on it. The replaceable ear pads are a genuine long-term advantage.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Controls
Are the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless controls easy to use? Yes, the touch controls are accurate and customizable.
The right earcup’s touch controls handle volume, playback, ANC modes, and calls. Every gesture I tried worked accurately, even with a damp fingertip in warm weather. The left earcup uses physical buttons for power and pairing.

I find those more reliable. Sennheiser lets you customize some gestures in the Smart Control Plus app, so you can set up the controls the way you want.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Companion App
Is the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app good? It’s clean and easy to use, but the EQ remains limiting for audiophiles.
The Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app connects reliably and stays uncluttered. The 8-band EQ lets you adjust bass, mids, and treble, but it’s less precise than a parametric EQ. Sound Zones stands out.

It switches EQ presets automatically based on your GPS location, so your commute and home profiles change without you lifting a finger.

There’s a built-in hearing test for a personalized sound profile and a battery protection mode that caps charging at 80% to help the battery last longer. You also get a Find My Headphones feature and an ANC level slider.

Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Connectivity
What does the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless connect to? Almost everything, with codec support that stands out in the segment.
The Momentum 5 Wireless launched with Bluetooth 5.4. Bluetooth 6.0 and LE Audio will arrive in a firmware update. LE Audio should lower latency, improve battery life, and could boost audio quality. Multipoint worked well in my tests.

I switched between a phone and a laptop without issues. With Snapdragon Sound and aptX Lossless, you get lossless wireless audio on a compatible Snapdragon Android phone.

Wired listening over 3.5mm or USB-C supports up to 24-bit / 96kHz and sounds clearly better than Bluetooth for music and movies. Dolby Atmos works now. Head tracking for spatial audio will come in a future update.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode
How good is the ANC on the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless? The ANC is capable and improved, but it still does not lead the class against Sony or Bose.
The 8-microphone setup blocks steady, low-frequency noise well. Delhi traffic outside my window, air conditioner hum, and background chatter in a busy room all dropped noticeably. Sennheiser claims about 20dB of steady noise reduction below 1.1kHz, which is 3 to 5dB better than the Momentum 4. For daily commutes, office work, and casual travel, that’s enough and feels comfortable to use.
The Momentum 5 struggles with sharp, sudden sounds. A metal door slamming, loud clangs, or a pressure horn nearby cut through more than on the Sony WH-1000XM6 or Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen.

The ANC smooths out noise instead of blocking it completely. Some people will find this more natural for long listening sessions. If you want maximum isolation, you’ll notice the difference compared to Sony and Bose.
Transparency mode is good enough to hear announcements or cross the road, but it sounds processed. It doesn’t match the near-transparent pass-through from the best rivals.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Microphones and Calling
Are the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless microphones good for calls? Yes, call quality is among the best you’ll find at this price.
MMultiple colleagues on Zoom calls told me my voice sounded clear and natural, without the mechanical, over-processed quality some call microphones add. The Momentum 5 handled a balcony session with light background traffic without degrading my voice or triggering aggressive noise suppression that swallowed syllables.
The microphone also handled wind noise well, which matters in the hybrid work setups common across Delhi-NCR.It’s worth separating two different performance metrics here. For active voice calls, the Momentum 5 is excellent.
For passively suppressing incidental office noise, like keyboard clicks and ambient conversation during non-call moments, ANC does the work. That’s where it falls short compared with Sony and Bose. These are not the same test.
Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Review: Battery and Charging
What is the battery life of the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless? Up to 57 hours claimed; approximately 47 hours measured with ANC active.
Sennheiser claims up to 57 hours with ANC on. In my tests, I got about 47 hours before needing a charge. That’s still the longest real-world battery life I’ve seen from any over-ear headphone at this price. The Sony WH-1000XM6 gives about 30 hours in similar conditions.
The battery story goes beyond the numbers. The Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app has a battery protection mode that caps charging at 80% to slow down battery wear. The 700mAh cell under those four Philips screws on the left earcup is user-replaceable in minutes. Ear pads are also replaceable.
This headphone is built to outlast its warranty. In a market where a premium battery replacement at an authorized service center usually costs Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000, that changes the long-term value.
You charge with USB-C. Quick charge support gives you a useful top-up in a short time. If the battery dies while you’re traveling, you can still use the headphones with a 3.5mm cable.
Review Verdict: Should You Buy the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless?

Smartprix ⭐ Rating: 8.2/10
The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless justifies its Rs 39,990 price. The midrange-rich sound gave me one of the best Bollywood listening experiences I’ve had from a wireless headphone at this price. That same warmth worked just as well for English music and film dialogue. Battery life is truly class-leading. Call quality is the best I’ve tested in this segment. The user-replaceable battery is a feature every brand should offer.
The ANC gap with Sony and Bose is real and worth calling out. If you fly often or need deep silence in loud places, the Sony WH-1000XM6 at Rs 34,990 is still the better ANC pick and costs less. For most people, the Momentum 5 is the more complete package. You get better sound, much better battery, better call quality, and a design built to last. That makes it the smarter long-term buy.
I went into this review expecting a solid upgrade to the Momentum 4. I came away convinced this is the most sensible premium headphone purchase in India right now for most people.
