Samsung Galaxy F54 5G Review: Design

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G in silver color is blingy at first look. The plastic back panel has a flashy design and a glossy gradient finish, so much so that it feels like slipping out of hand. There is Samsung branding at the bottom along with a triple rear camera setup aligned vertically in 3 separate slightly raised circular modules encompassed by silver rings in the top left corner of the back panel. The LED flash is placed beside them. From the back, the smartphone looks attractive and will suit those who love to make a bold statement.

The right edge houses the power button as well as volume rockers while the left side has the SIM tray. The bottom has a USB Type-C port, speaker grille, and microphone while the top has a secondary microphone. The front has a center-positioned punch-hole cutout for the selfie shooter and very narrow bezels that are hardly noticeable. The smartphone has flat edges, and feels sleek (8.4mm) and lightweight (199 grams) in hand. The only issue is that the silver panel catches loads of fingerprints and smudges. These smudges were very visible too and this was annoying for me. Also, the silver color model might not be liked by those who want understated and subtle shades for their smartphones. The blue color model might work for them.

Samsung Galaxy F54 5G Review: Display

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G sports a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Plus Infinity O Display. The AMOLED screen produces gorgeous visuals that are rich, vibrant, and sharp. The colors look beautiful and the accuracy is also very good. Viewing angles and dynamic range is very decent as well. 120Hz refresh rate makes sure that the scrolling and gaming experience is immersive and smooth.

I watched content on apps like YouTube and Netflix, and it was a good overall experience, especially when viewed in full-screen mode, the visuals look decently sized and impactful. Switching to peak brightness levels allows a clear view of the display even under direct sunlight. There are options like adaptive brightness, eye comfort shield, motion smoothness, and different modes to make the display experience even better.

Samsung Galaxy F54 5G Review: Camera

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G has a triple camera setup at the back. It includes a 108MP primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilization technology. The main sensor clicks gorgeous images in daylight that is crystal clear, crisp, and full of life. The colors look more natural and less boosted and the images are full of details. An astrolapse feature has also been introduced to Galaxy F54 that allows capturing of the night sky and star trails into breathtaking shots. Low-light photography is also decent with the 108MP sensor.

8MP ultrawide angle camera covers a good field of view and gives detailed and clear shots in the daytime. In low light, the performance dips a bit which is understandable. The third lens is the 2MP macro sensor which hardly serves any purpose and is present just for increasing the number of lenses.

There is a Fun Mode with 16 inbuilt lens effects that allow the user to unleash their creativity with various artistic styles. There is a single-take feature as well that allows capturing 4 videos and 4 photos simultaneously in a single shot.

At the front is a 32MP selfie camera that clicks decent selfies in daylight as well as in low-light conditions. The focus is kept on the subject in the frame and the skin tones appear very natural. The group selfies are detailed and cover a good field of view.

All in all, the camera setup is decent.

Samsung Galaxy F54 5G Review: Performance

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G is powered by Exynos 1380 chipset with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB onboard storage. The chipset is handles daily tasks without any trouble. The 8GB RAM and Mali G68 MP5 GPU make sure that no matter how many apps are running in the background, the device never stutters or lags. Also no app crashes or hangs the device when opened from the background. 256GB storage gives ample space to store whatever you want and the gaming performance is also decent. Heavy-duty games like Asphalt 9 can be played in HD graphics and high frame rates seamlessly for up to half an hour. Post that, the game keeps running but the device starts heating up. Otherwise, too the Thermal performance does need improvement as Galaxy F54 starts heating up if you perform heavy-duty tasks for longer durations. These include video editing, playing games, and more.

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G exhibits decent performance capabilities, as it effortlessly handles everyday tasks. Powered by the Exynos 1380 SoC, a 5G-enabled chipset with clock speeds of up to 2.4GHz, this smartphone ensures smooth operation. The day-to-day apps runs smoothly without any app crashes. It can handle web browsing, multitasking, and media streaming without any noticeable lag or slowdown.

When it comes to gaming, the handset demonstrates some limitations. While it can run graphically-intensive games like CoD: Mobile and Asphult 9, users may need to adjust the graphics and frame rate settings to medium levels for optimal performance. Additionally, it’s important to note that extended gaming sessions may cause the device to warm up slightly.

In synthetic benchmark tests, it achieved a noteworthy AnTuTu score of 4,70,118 points. Here are results of other benchmark tests that we ran on the phone:

In terms of software, the Galaxy F54 runs Android 13 based on Samsung One UI 5.1 OS. The latest UI gives more personalization options to users. These include dynamic widgets, modes, and routines to give custom wallpapers a fun and colorful experience overall. The only issue is loads of bloatware that comes pre-installed on the device. Apps like Byjus, phonepe, Snapchat, candy crush, and many more come pre-installed and have to be removed if you don’t want them. For a device that costs above 30k, this could have been avoided.

It is the first F-Series device that will come with 4 major Android OS updates and 5 years of security patches. Earlier Samsung rolled out 4 OS updates for high-end devices like Galaxy S23 Series and Foldables.

The calling quality is good on Galaxy F54 but the audio is just about ok. It is loud enough but doesn’t have depth or character. Also, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack so those who use wired headphones will be disappointed.

Samsung Galaxy F54 5G Review: Battery

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G packs a large 6000mAh battery that is mostly found on Samsung phones in India. The large battery gives enough juice to last for a day and a half with moderate usage. However, if your usage includes long gaming sessions, video editing, and content consumption for hours, then it will have to be charged once every day.

The smartphone comes with 25W wired fast charging support that takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to recharge the battery from 0 to 100%. The charging speed is slow and the charging time is long, but the brand has tried to make up for it with a larger battery. Also, there is no adapter inside the box, so use the one you have or purchase it if you don’t own one.

Samsung Galaxy F54 5G Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

The Samsung Galaxy F54 5G proves to be an excellent mid-range smartphone offering remarkable value for money. Boasting a powerful chipset, an impressive 108MP camera configuration, a capacious 6000mAh battery, and a vibrant AMOLED display, this device packs a punch in terms of specifications. Additionally, its sleek and lightweight design adds a touch of elegance to its overall appeal.

However, it is worth noting that the Galaxy F54 does come with a fair share of bloatware, along with a rather underwhelming 2MP lens, and the absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Despite these minor drawbacks, if your priority lies in owning a stylish smartphone with top-tier features, all at an affordable price point below 30,000, these shortcomings can be easily overlooked.

Reasons to buy

  • Sleek & lightweight design
  • Decent Everyday Performance
  • Larger battery
  • 4 major OS updates

Reasons to not buy

  • Poor Thermal performance
  • Loads of bloatware
  • The back panel is a smudge magnet
  • The 3.5mm headphone jack is missing
