TL; DR
  • OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has stepped down, with his last day being March 31.
  • Liu had denied shutdown rumors in January, making his exit all the more surprising.
  • OnePlus and Realme are now unified under Oppo, led by realme’s CEO Sky Li.

Just yesterday, we published a story about how OnePlus could leave the Western markets entirely while continuing to operate normally in China (its home market). The story builds on long-standing rumors about the company’s exit from the global markets amid declining market shares and poor sales. Now, a new report from ET reveals that OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has stepped down from his position. This development further add fuel to rumors about the OnePlus future.

Robin Liu’s Exit: A Timeline of Events

In January 2026, OnePlus India’s CEO, Robin Liu, took to his official X account to state the “unverified reports claiming OnePlus is shutting down are false.” He further added to his response, stating that “OnePlus India’s business operations continue as normal.” The official statement must have given stakeholders and customers some relief.

However, as of March 24, 2026, Robin Liu has officially stepped down as CEO of OnePlus India. Liu is currently serving his notice period at the company, with his last official day scheduled for March 31, 2026. In fact, some reports even suggest that Liu is no longer residing in the Indian office; he’s moved back to China.

What The Restructuring Actually Means For OnePlus

The departure, again, is being attributed to the then-rumored global restructuring at Oppo, in which OnePlus is being integrated as a sub-brand. The parent company behind OnePlus and Oppo (and several other Chinese smartphone brands) has reportedly placed OnePlus under the oversight of realme’s CEO Sky Li.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s happening and what might happen in the near future.

  • A sharp drop in OnePlus India’s market share and rising component costs forced the companies (Oppo and OnePlus) to move toward a unified business model to protect profit margins and operations.
  • OnePlus and Realme have been integrated under a single “sub-brand” vertical led by Sky Li, ending their status as semi-independent brands and integrating them into Oppo’s global business.
  • To cut the overhead expenses, the brands now share identical research and development, supply chains, and service centers.

Given that OnePlus India has already confirmed the launch of the Nord 6 in India on April 7, 2026, it looks like the brand is planning to operate normally, at least for the time being.
