You must have heard that this time around there will be no T variant of the OnePlus 9. This was a shift from a long-time tradition like many other things happening with and surrounding the company. Now, a fresh new report suggests instead of a OnePlus 9T, we would be witnessing a OnePlus 9 RT. This phone will reportedly launch in October 2021 bearing Oxygen OS 12. Also that the said model will be released in India and Chine only.
So far OnePlus hasn’t confirmed or denied this bit of news. Nevertheless, here’s everything we know about the 9 RT:
OnePlus 9 RT Features
The OnePlus 9 RT will receive some major upgrades in the camera department. It is expected to feature the same 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor used on the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. Like the OnePlus Nord 2, this sensor will be used as a primary camera on the OnePlus 9 RT. Further, it is likely to feature a 16MP Sony IMX481 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP B&W sensor.

This phone is expected to be powered by the same Snapdragon 870 SoC and same AMOLED display with 120Hz found in the 9R. Other internals could consist of a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging support, up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. OnePlus did confirm that it throttled the CPU performance in the OnePlus 9 series to conserve battery life. We can expect something similar on the 9 RT too.
On the front, you might get a 6.55-inch FHD+ E3 AMOLED display with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, an in-display fingerprint, a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Other things in the mix could comprise NFC, dual stereo speakers, and an X-axis vibration motor, and Android 12 with OxygenOS 12 skin.
OnePlus 9 RT: First phone with OxygenOS 12
What’s particularly interesting about the OnePlus 9 RT is that it will be the first OnePlus phone to run OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box. OnePlus now uses ColorOS as the base for OxygenOS. OnePlus has not yet officially released its Android 12-based skin. We can expect an official announcement in the coming weeks.

Oxygen OS 12 will be, more or less, similar to Oxygen OS 11.3 in terms of design. At least for now, Oxygen OS’ next update won’t feature Google’s Material You design, but it will include many other new features. A Theme Store, Floating Windows, and new privacy features are among them. Oxygen OS 12 will include ColorOS’ Private Safe following the integration of the codebase earlier this year.
OnePlus 9 RT Expected Price
OnePlus 9 RT is expected to be priced as follows:
- 8GB + 128GB = 2999 yuan
- 8GB + 256GB = 3299 yuan
- 12GB + 256GB = 3599 yuan
The OnePlus 9 RT is expected to launch in October, so we will learn more details closer to the launch date.
