OnePlus 5 Android 8.0 Oreo Upgrade is Now Rolling Out

Wait for OnePlus 5 users is about to get over. The ‘Never Settle’ smartphone maker is reportedly rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 5 users in a closed beta program. The OnePlus 5 was launched earlier in June this year. Last month, OnePlus also rolled out “Android Open” beta build for its last year’s OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones and later it started pushing Android Oreo update via OTA.

“We are super excited to announce that we are ready to kick off the ‘Open Beta Program’ for the OnePlus 5 today. The first ‘Open Beta’ build based on Android 8.0 for the OnePlus 5 is available for download now,” the company wrote in a blog post on Monday.

With this latest update, OnePlus 5 users will be introduced to Oreo features such as picture-in-picture, adaptive icons, latest security patch and dual apps, etc. Open Beta program has where OnePlus makes the beta file available in public domain for those who wish to test Pre-stable release. Based on their experience and feedback, the Company fixes bugs (if any) before pushing it via OTA updates.

To recall, the OnePlus 5 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 6GB/8GB of RAM. The phone houses 16MP + 20MP dual rear cameras and a 16MP selfie camera on the front. The phone is aided by a 3300mAh battery with the support of company’s proprietary dash charger. Recently, its successor OnePlus 5T was announced and since then the OnePlus 5 remains out of stock on its official store.
