Nissan has launched the Tekton in India at its global premiere in Mumbai on July 9, 2026. The launch marks the brand’s most significant push into the mainstream SUV segment in over a decade. Built on the same platform as the Renault Duster and available in 12 variants with two engine options, it comes ready to take a chunk of India’s hottest and best-selling segment: compact SUVs.

Nissan Tekton 2026: Design & Features
If there’s one thing that the Tekton isn’t, it’s subtle. Nissan has drawn explicitly from the Patrol’s design language, giving it an upright stance. The front fascia gets a full-width LED light bar, vertically stacked LED DRLs, and an illuminated Nissan logo with a red accent strip across the grille.
In profile, you get squared wheel arches, silver roof rails, blacked-out pillars, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Connected LED tail lamps and a chunky silver-insert rear bumper round out the aggressive, bold, and loud look.

Inside, Nissan has gone with a dual-tone light grey and burgundy interior with rose gold trim, which stands apart in this segment. There’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch Google-integrated touchscreen that anchor the dashboard (also found on the Duster).

Standard boot space is 518 liters, expanding to 1,789 liters with the seats folded. Eleven color options are available: six single-tone shades including Indigo Blue, Flare Garnet Red, and Pearl White, plus five dual-tone pairings with Onyx Black.

The list of features is quite long as well. The top trims of the vehicle get a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, 6-way adjustable and ventilated front seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera for an all-round view. Nissan also provides Level 2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and emergency braking on the N-Connecta variant.

Nissan Tekton 2026: Powertrains
The Nissan Tekton borrows the same two engines we’ve seen on the Duster: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes bhp and 166 Nm (paired with a six-speed manual transmission) and a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 160 bhp and 280 Nm (paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed wet clutch DCT).
| Engine Model | Displacement & Configuration | Power (bhp) | Torque (Nm) | Transmission Options | Fuel Efficiency (kmpl) |
| T160 | 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, Turbo-Petrol | 99 | 166 | 6-speed Manual (MT) | 19.5 |
| T280 | 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, Turbo-Petrol | 160 | 280 | 6-speed Manual (MT) | 17.8 |
| T280 | 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, Turbo-Petrol | 160 | 280 | 6-speed Wet Clutch DCT | 18.5 |
Nissan has not brought the 1.8-liter hybrid from the Duster, which seems like an intentional choice for maintaining meaningful differences between the cars. Likewise, the Tekton isn’t available with a diesel powertrain at launch, which might be a major letdown for buyers who prefer the power and fuel economy that come with it.

Nissan Tekton 2026: Safety
The Tekton arrives with a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating: 30.49/32 for adult occupant protection and 45/49 for child occupant protection. Standard safety includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, ISOFIX mounts, and seatbelt reminders across all seats.
The Tekton’s starting price is quite appealing, in my opinion, but it remains to be seen how buyers respond. Given the chaotic fuel-blending situation in the country, Nissan should at least have launched the Tekton with a diesel engine. Anyways, at launch, the car competes with popular names like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Honda Elevate, Tata Sierra, and the Renault Duster.
