Kia India has released a teaser video online hinting at two upcoming models — one fully electric and one hybrid-powered — both set to make their debut in the latter half of July 2026. While the carmaker has not officially named either model in the teaser, all available evidence points toward the Syros EV and the Sorento Hybrid as the two cars in question. Kia had already announced both models for the Indian market at its global investor day event earlier this year, so the teaser is less of a surprise and more of a countdown.
The Syros EV: Kia’s Play for the Mass-Market EV Segment
The Syros EV is the more immediately significant of the two launches. It will be built on the K1 platform, the same architecture that underpins the ICE-powered Syros, and will be assembled at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh, where the Sonet, Seltos, and petrol Syros are already being manufactured. Local production is key here; it allows Kia to keep costs in check and price the car competitively without the burden of heavy import duties.
Test mules of the Syros EV have already been spotted on Indian roads on multiple occasions, wrapped in heavy camouflage. What the spy shots reveal is a silhouette that closely mirrors the ICE Syros — the same upright stance, boxy proportions, and muscular wheel arches that have made the regular model a recognisable presence. Kia is expected to introduce EV-specific styling touches to differentiate the two, including a closed-off front grille, revised bumpers, and possibly new alloy wheel designs. A charging port on the front fender and EV-specific badging are also anticipated.

On the powertrain side, official specifications have not been confirmed, but the Syros EV is widely expected to draw from the same battery ecosystem as the Hyundai Inster EV sold globally, which is available with 42kWh and 49kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery options. The Inster EV returns a WLTP-rated range of up to 355km on the larger pack; India-spec figures are yet to be confirmed but real-world range in the 300–350km bracket is a reasonable expectation. The Syros EV will be front-wheel drive only — no AWD option is anticipated.
Feature-wise, the Syros EV is expected to carry over most of the ICE model’s well-equipped specification sheet, including a triple-screen dashboard layout, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera on upper trims. The ICE Syros already has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, which sets a strong safety baseline for the EV version.
Pricing is expected to fall in the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh range, ex-showroom, which would make it the most affordable EV in Kia India’s lineup — sitting below the Carens Clavis EV. At that price point, it goes up directly against the Tata Nexon EV, the MG Windsor, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. It will also be the brand’s second locally manufactured EV for India after the Carens Clavis EV, taking Kia’s total EV count in the market to four models. A debut in July does not necessarily mean sales begin immediately — deliveries could follow in August 2026.

The Sorento Hybrid: A Three-Row Hybrid SUV Above the Seltos
The second model teased is the hybrid-powered car, which Kia is expected to bring to India under the Sorento name — though it has not been confirmed whether the India-spec version will carry the Sorento badge and body or take a different form. What is known is that the SUV, internally codenamed MQ4i, will be based on the global Sorento’s underpinnings and will use a hybridised 1.5-litre petrol engine. It is a three-row SUV, and for context, the global Sorento spans 4.8 metres in length with a 2-metre wheelbase.
Positioned above the Seltos in Kia’s India line-up, the Sorento Hybrid is expected to be priced at around Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom. At that price, it targets the Mahindra XUV 7XO in the three-row SUV segment and brings a hybrid powertrain option that is currently absent from Kia’s India portfolio entirely.
With two distinct launches approaching — one aimed squarely at the volume-sensitive affordable EV segment and one at the premium three-row hybrid space — July 2026 is shaping up to be one of Kia India’s busier and more consequential months in recent memory. Both models, if priced right, could meaningfully shift where the brand sits in two very different parts of the Indian market.
