Kia India has officially teased the all-new Sorento, confirming its arrival in India. It’s the brand’s first-ever hybrid SUV for the market. Pre-bookings are already open, though we don’t have a confirmed launch date as of now.

A Flagship Positioned Above The Seltos
The teaser reveals an upright stance with vertically stacked lighting elements and slim LED DRLs, which hint at Kia’s latest global design language rather than a dated carryover. Kia hasn’t confirmed India-spec details yet, but from the global version, we already know a few details.
For instance, the Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, making it larger than rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron. Furthermore, the SUV is expected to offer three-row seating in six- or seven-seat layouts. What will be most important for the company is to assemble the Sorento locally to keep pricing competitive.

What Powers It, And What Will It Cost
Power is expected to come from Kia’s 1.6-liter turbo-petrol strong-hybrid setup, producing 238hp and 380Nm internationally, paired with a 6-speed automatic. In addition, a recent CarWale report claims that the car will also be available with a diesel powertrain. Expect upmarket features like twin 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS (similar to the new-generation Seltos).

I think the Sorento’s timing matters as much as the SUV itself. Kia has spent the last few years building its brand recognition and driving some serious sales with the Seltos, Sonet, and Carens Clavis (not so much with the Syros, though), and this feels like a deliberate next step up the price ladder.
A locally assembled three-row hybrid at ₹40 lakh, in my opinion, would put real pressure on the Kodiaq, Tayron, and top-spec Innova Hycross buyers all at once; that’s a wider net than Kia usually casts with a single launch. Perhaps it could also gather the attention of Fortuner lovers.
