TL; DR

  • “Stable” Android 15 update for Edge 50 Pro (1.77 GB) brings major issues: camera crashes, lag worsened, fast torch broken.
  • Battery life drops from 7 to 4-5 hours; dark mode flickering and new bloatware frustrate users.
  • No word from Motorola yet.

Motorola recently rolled out the “stable” Android 15 update (what a surprise) for its Edge 50 Pro, version V1UM35H.10-38-1, with a hefty size of 1.77 GB. While the update promises a “smarter, faster, and more secure experience,” user feedback suggests otherwise, with major issues being widely reported across platforms like Reddit, Motorola forums, and Twitter (now X).

Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s Android 15 Update Brings Problems, Not Fixes

One of the most significant complaints revolves around the camera. The notorious portrait mode crash and lag issues, present even before the update, remain unresolved. In fact, users report that these issues have worsened, with the camera freezing or crashing constantly, making it nearly unusable.

Fast Torch, a gesture-based feature, is also reported to be not working properly, further frustrating users. Another pressing thing is battery performance. It’s gotten much worse after the update.

A user reported they used to enjoy around 7 hours of screen-on time, but post-update, this has dropped to just 4-5 hours. Even factory resets have failed to resolve the issue.

Additionally, dark mode flickering has emerged as a new issue, and users are criticizing Motorola for introducing bloatware like the Moto App Manager with this update. While the new FontWorkSans font is a nice touch, it’s not nearly enough to offset the mounting frustrations with the software.

There are also no new Android 15 features like Circle to Search or Theft Detection Lock or even Motorola’s own Moto AI (at least in India), which has been there on the less expensive Edge 50 Neo for a while now.

What’s next?

This update is a glaring reminder of Motorola’s long-standing software issues. Despite solid hardware, the company continues to struggle with software optimization and bug fixes. And it’s not just the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, several other Motorola phones are also facing similar issues, especially with the camera app.

With users expressing their dissatisfaction and even losing confidence in Motorola’s ability to address these problems, it’s clear that the brand needs to step up its game if it hopes to retain its user base.
