Lenovo’s New Yoga Book With an E Ink Display is Really Exciting

The world needs more of E ink displays. These screens are extremely light on batteries, but more importantly, they are lighter on eyes and ideal for reading content. This is particularly why Amazon’s Kindle line of E ink display readers are so popular among readers.

Lenovo’s new Yoga Book C930, that was presented at IFA 2018, ditches the hard physical keyboard for a new on-screen one that shows up on its e-ink screen. You can also detach the e-ink display half and use it as a separate e-reader (can only support downloaded PDF and Mobi files). Or you could just flip it over using the 360-degree hinge and jot down notes with a stylus (Wacom).

Of course, it would be tough for the on-screen keyboard to match an actual one with key-travel even with haptic feedback and shadow effect Lenovo is using, but then again the Yoga Book isn’t meant for hardcore typing work. It’s more of a media and content consumption laptop with a workable keyboard which makes it quite interesting, especially for professionals on the move.

The Yoga book C930 weighs 790 grams and is closer to a full computer than any other Yoga book. It employs up to Intel Core i5 processors (7th generation) with up to 4GB RAM and up to 256GB SSD options. The 35.8Wh battery within is rated to last 8.6 hours. The base variant that comes with Intel core M processor goes for $999, which is on the pricier side.
