iQOO has officially revealed the display specifications of the upcoming iQOO 16, and the company is making the screen one of the phone’s biggest upgrades. It will feature a 2K AMOLED panel running at 165Hz, making it the first smartphone to combine the two specifications. The display was announced at a joint Samsung Display and iQOO event, where the companies also detailed the technology behind the new panel.
2K at 165Hz
The iQOO 16 will use a 6.85-inch flat AMOLED display with 508ppi, matching the size and pixel density of the iQOO 15 while increasing the refresh rate from 144Hz to 165Hz.
The panel uses Samsung’s 2K LEAD OLED 2.0 technology and M16 luminescent material, developed through the Samsung Display–iQOO Future Display Exploration Program. iQOO says the new combination can reduce power consumption by 30% compared with conventional OLED panels and by 31% compared with 1.5K panels at similar brightness levels.
Brightness reaches 2,800 nits globally, while local peak brightness can reach a claimed 10,000 nits, which is just ridiculous.
iQOO also says colour uniformity has improved by 39.6% and brightness uniformity by 22.3% compared with the iQOO 15. The company has calibrated the panels individually using its own sub-pixel compensation algorithm and claims colour accuracy of ±0.001.
For gaming, the display supports 5,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling and 500Hz multi-finger touch sampling, along with iQOO’s Q-flex technology for reducing input latency.
Other display features include 1.24X DCI-P3 gamut coverage, game-specific gamut expansion, Dolby Vision, DC dimming and an anti-reflective coating. iQOO is also claiming a 100% first-frame brightness ratio for reduced motion blur.
The company has not yet confirmed the fingerprint sensor. A previous report claimed the phone could use a new under-display 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, but iQOO hasn’t officially announced it.
China Launch Confirmed
The iQOO 16 will launch in China in September, alongside the iQOO Pad Ultra, although iQOO hasn’t announced an exact date yet.
Its India launch remains uncertain. Earlier reports suggested a September launch in India at around ₹99,990, while a more recent claim suggested iQOO could skip India this year because of rising memory costs.
