Apple could be preparing one of the biggest iPhone display changes in years. According to leaks from Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max could ditch the Dynamic Island in favour of a much smaller punch-hole cutout and a quad-curved display.
Smaller Cutout, Bigger Displays
The leaks claim the iPhone 20 Pro will have a 6.41-inch display with a 2686 x 1236 resolution, while the Pro Max could feature a 6.96-inch panel with a 2912 x 1340 resolution. Both are also said to use quad-curved edges.
Instead of the familiar pill-shaped Dynamic Island, the displays could have a small punch-hole for the front-facing camera.
Apple reportedly plans to move the Face ID dot projector and flood illuminator underneath the display. This would leave only the selfie camera visible from the front, significantly reducing the size of the cutout.
Face ID Could Move Further Under the Display
Apple has already been experimenting with hiding components underneath the display, and these leaks suggest the company could take that approach further with the iPhone 20 Pro.
The reported setup keeps the front camera outside the display while moving the supporting Face ID hardware underneath it. That means Apple wouldn’t need to put all of the components inside a large pill-shaped opening.
Under-display camera technology has existed on Android phones for years, although hiding the camera itself can come with image-quality compromises. The reported iPhone approach is different because the selfie camera would remain in a punch-hole while the Face ID components move underneath the panel.
Whether Apple can maintain the same Face ID performance with this configuration remains unknown.

What Happens to the Dynamic Island?
The Dynamic Island debuted with the iPhone 14 Pro and became part of Apple’s interface design, with notifications, calls, music controls and Live Activities expanding around the cutout.
Moving to a punch-hole (on the side) would require Apple to rethink at least some of those interactions. However, if Apple keeps the punch-hole in the center, no major changes would be needed.
The reported change is said to come with the iPhone 20 Pro series in 2027, which would coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone. That would give Apple a natural point for a major hardware redesign. Along with the smaller camera cutout, the reported quad-curved display could make the iPhone 20 Pro look considerably different from the current generation.
