TL: DR
  • Renowned Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone 17e could be a bigger upgrade than what we expected.
  • The iPhone 17e could get the Dynamic Island that made its way on the iPhone lineup with the iPhone 14 Pro, and has been a part of all the iPhones (including the non-Pro models).
  • Under the hood, the iPhone 17e could run on the baseline A19 chipset, the one that might power 2025’s iPhone 17.

Though Apple hasn’t sent out invites for the iPhone 17’s launch event yet, chatter about the iPhone 17e has already started surfacing on the internet.

Renowned Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone 17e could be a bigger upgrade than what we expected. While remaining the cheapest iPhone in the company’s 2026 lineup, the handset will offer several improvements over the existing iPhone 16e.

Dynamic Island & New Face ID Module

For instance, the iPhone 17e could get the Dynamic Island that made its way on the iPhone lineup with the iPhone 14 Pro, and has been a part of all the iPhones (including the non-Pro models) ever since. This should also mean (and the tipster also mentions it) that the phone will feature a new Face ID module (smaller than the one on the iPhone 16e).

Apple’s Latest A19 Chip

Under the hood, the iPhone 17e could run on the baseline A19 chipset, the one that might power 2025’s iPhone 17. However, there’s a chance that the chipset has either one less GPU core (making it a binned version of the A19 on the iPhone 17). Given that the handset will run on Apple’s latest chipset, it will surely support all the new (and upcoming) Apple Intelligence features.

48MP Rear-Facing Camera & Affordable Pricing

Other specifications, such as the 60Hz screen and the 48MP rear-facing camera, might remain similar to the iPhone 16. As mentioned earlier, the iPhone 17e’s biggest selling point will remain its price. However, if Apple hikes the iPhone 17’s pricing, it could also increase the iPhone 17e’s price. That’s something that we’ll have to wait and figure out as the phones go official.

For the uninformed, the iPhone 17e might go official in the spring of 2026, i.e., likely between March and May.
