Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max arrived with a robust camera prowess praised by many. It seems like the Cupertino-based giant wants to take it a step ahead using a custom-made Sony sensor on the next-gen iPhone 16 Pro Max. Let’s dig around a bit deeper to find out what the buzz is about.

To achieve advanced photography, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will arrive with a custom-made Sony IMX908 plus a periscope lens along with a bundle of software optimizations and computing.

Sony IMX903 made its debut last year and it would’ve been made since if this sensor had arrived on iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, it didn’t, and for very good reasons. Apple is known to take its time upgrading to newer tech which often results in delays but hey, it is worth it.

Coming back to Sony IMX903, the sensor is likely to arrive on the iPhone 16 Pro Max while keeping the 48MP count intact. The sensor is slightly bigger at 1/1.14” and has double-layer transistors, DCG, and 14-bit ADC to maximize camera performance.

Apart from that, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will retain the periscope telescope (or as Apple would call it – tetraprism) lens from the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro will reportedly get their hands on the tetraprism lens giving customers more options to get their hands on once the iPhone 16 series arrives later this year.

We are still almost nine months away from the iPhone 16 series and the rumor mill is already filled up with reports. For instance, the iPhone 16 Pro series is likely the first iPhone series to bring a dual 48MP camera setup along with a 12MP telephoto lens. There’s a capacitive or a mechanical Capture button likely to make it across the entire iPhone 16 series as well.

Moving on, both Pro models will use the same premium grade 5 titanium construction as the iPhone 15 Pro retaining the durable appearance and sleek look. We can expect a slightly curved display on the Pro models although that remains to be confirmed.

Next up, both Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo have anticipated the Snapdragon X75 5G modem plus 5G Advanced with a max download speed of 7.5Gbps onboard iPhone 16 Pro models. Moreover, the Pro series is likely to receive 2x storage at 2TB compared to 1TB on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple is pushing the envelope of smartphone technology with iPhone 16 Pro Max taking the benchmarking position in terms of performance and camera capabilities.
