We just stepped onto 2024 and there’s already a tonne to discuss about the iPhone 16 series scheduled for launch this September. The latest info details how the iPhone 16 Pro series will use a faster and more efficient 5G modem along with a boost to the RAM storage across the entire series. Here’s more.

According to Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities, the iPhone 16 Pro will upgrade to a Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 5G modem. These are better, faster, and more efficient modems compared to last year’s X70 modems that we saw with the iPhone 15 series. Note that iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will still retain the Snapdragon X70 modems to get their 5G support onboard.

The Snapdragon X75 supports the “5G Advanced” standard which is considered as the next phase of 5G and a step closer to 6G. It uses AI and ML algorithms to improve 5G performance which is a major differentiator between the standard and Pro models. According to MacRumors, X75 supports improved carrier aggregations to improve download and upload speeds. The modems also take 20% less power and 25% less space than its predecessor – X70.

iPhone 16 series to bring notable upgrades - X75 5G modem, 8GB RAM & 5G Advanced

Apple has been working on its lineup of 5G modems after it acquired Intel’s modem business a few years ago. However, it seems like the actual modem might not be available on iPhones at least through 2026. It is also because Apple and Qualcomm recently extended their 5G modem agreement till 2026 which means an in-house 5G modem is likely not coming till that period.

In another update, iPhone 16 non-pro models will upgrade to a faster Wi-Fi 6E support than we have seen with iPhone 15 Pro models. There’s also a boost of RAM storage from 6GB to 8GB that will resonate across the entire iPhone 16 series. It means you will soon get to notice even faster iPhones plus the ability to do more simultaneously without any hassle.

Apple iPhone 16 series is expected to be announced in September 2024. Seems like the Cupertino-based giant will use a similar tactic to LTE Advanced that it did with the iPhone 6s in 2015 to announce its upgraded ‘5G Advanced’ later this year.
