The Indian Ministry of Railways has released a new app to help people obtain train schedules, reserve tickets, and order food on their seats. It’s called SwaRail, and it will be available at both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Currently, the app is available in beta for early testing, but soon enough, the government will release it for all citizens.
SwaRail To Offer Multiple Features In One User Interface

Usually, people rely on different apps or websites to track their trains and book seats. However, SwaRail by the Center for Railway Information Systems allows users to search for trains, check their PNR status, coach position, and track the real-time status of their train. Users can book reserved, unreserved, and platform tickets using the app. Further, it also lets customers file for refunds in case the train is late or reach Rail Madad.
Multiple App Sections Include Home, My Bookings, And Menu
Once a person books a train through the app, it shows in the My Bookings section. Then there’s a personal profile section that showcases the R-Wallet balance at the top (it looks like the app will allow users to keep some money in its digital wallet), save information about multiple passengers (which could be a user’s family members), change the account-related settings, and enable/disable biometric access for the app.

Given that the Indian Railways currently accept orders from multiple aggregators, combining all the features in a super-app seems to be a step in the right direction, especially since it increases customers’ convenience. To onboard the app, users can use their existing RailConnect or UTS App credentials.
One App, Multiple Use Cases
So, instead of using Where Is My Train to track a train, IRCTC Rail Connect, Amazon to book tickets, and eCatering IRCTC to order food, customers will be able to do everything in one app. We know there are other platforms as well; the ones mentioned above are just examples. Although there’s no official word from the government about when the app will go live, we expect it to be functional within a few months (depending on the feedback received from early testers).
