The date for the annual Google I/O Event has been announced and the event is expected to see some major launches from the company. I/O Event is the big developer’s conference that will be held on 11 and 12 May this year. The event will be live-streamed online but there will be a limited live audience in attendance as well. The conference will take place in Shoreline Amphitheatre which has been Google’s favorite venue for its events.
CEO Sundar Pichai broke the news via his Twitter handle. He wrote “We’ll be back live from Shoreline Amphitheatre for this year’s #GoogleIO! Join us online May 11-12.” Google has revealed that the event will open free for everyone virtually, as last year’s was. Though there is no hint about who will be able to attend and how many people will be allowed in the live audience, these details will surely be confirmed soon as the date of the conference draws nearer. Google is expected to announce registrations very soon.

Google or Sundar Pichai hasn’t hinted about what the I/O conference might bring, but rumors are strong that the focus will be on Android 12 this year. This is because Google I/O has always been more than a conference. The event has seen the launch of Pixel 3a in 2019 along with features like Google Maps and Chrome also being released during an I/O event.
Expectations from Google I/O 2022
We have already said that this year’s Google I/O will mainly focus on the launch of Android 13. More about it, including its features, will be revealed. If all goes as per the expected timeline, Android 13 will be available in October 2022.
Other than this, Android 12 will get improvements too, which might be announced during the conference.
More information is expected about Google Starline too. Starline creates 3D renders of people in front of a screen which allows them to chat in a video call. It was first announced last year during the I/O event so this year hopefully Google will explain it in detail.

Focus is expected to be on the hybrid work model this year as this has become a permanent practice for many offices in the post-pandemic era. If the hybrid model is cemented properly, Google Workspace is the tool that will be used most and thus we can expect the company to add more features to it.
Announcements about a new smartwatch software, Wear OS is also expected.
