Earlier this week, in collaboration with @OnLeaks, we offered an exclusive first glimpse of the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Since then, many of you have expressed keen interest in learning more about the device, particularly how it compares to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
While the two phones may share a similar initial impression, their designs reveal notable distinctions. To provide a comprehensive understanding, we’re excited to present a closer look, again in partnership with @OnLeaks.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Vs. Z Fold 5: Design Differences

Our exclusive Galaxy Z Fold 6 renders revealed a shift towards a more boxy design. While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 features rounded corners and edges, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 embraces a flat design reminiscent of the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review).

Upon closer inspection, though, a few changes to the camera module on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 become apparent. Firstly, the camera rings are slightly larger than those on the Z Fold 5.

Additionally, the lenses protrude more from the camera module. Whether this indicates a larger camera sensor or is purely a cosmetic change is something we are not sure about. Despite these differences, the overall shape and design of the camera module remain consistent. The flash, located to the right of the camera module, appears slightly more prominent.

As you can probably already notice, the inner screen bezels are also square-ish and not rounded anymore. The outer cover display appears to be losing its curved corners as well. The curves on the Z Fold 5’s outer display weren’t very pretty, so it makes sense for Samsung to get rid of the unused space and extend the display.

The speaker grills on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 have been redesigned: they now feature a single, continuous hole instead of the multiple smaller holes found on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. For those curious about the hinge, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 likely uses the same droplet-style Flex Hinge as the Galaxy Z Fold 5. As mentioned in our previous post, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 retains all the same ports, microphones, antenna bands, camera lenses, and buttons at identical locations as the Z Fold 5.

The actual dimensions of the device, however, are slightly different. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 1.4 mm shorter and 2.6 mm wider than the Z Fold 5. The display sizes, measured diagonally, remain largely unchanged, with the inner display measuring 7.6 inches and the outer display measuring 6.2 inches. This means that the unusual aspect ratio of the outer display is not going away, but we’re seeing some minor improvement.

Moreover, while the overall shape and design of the device remain familiar, Samsung has made subtle yet noticeable changes to the camera module, display bezels, and the outer cover display on the Fold 6.

Stay tuned for more updates as we eagerly await the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, expected on 10th July 2024.
