MediaTek Helio A series Announced; Brings AI, and Premium features To Affordable Segments

MediaTek is betting big on artificial intelligence (AI). After hosting its first AI forum, the chipset maker has introduced its A-series for mid-range devices. The first chipset to debut under the A-series -Helio A22. As per the MediaTek, it will offer AI features along with performance improvements similar to what Helio P series delivers. WIth this Helio A-series MediaTek is hoping to take on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 series of processors.

What’s Special Helio A22 Platform?

The quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 is based on Cortex-A53 cores which can clock speeds up to 2.0GHz. As for graphics, it is coupled with an IMG PowerVR GE-class GPU. MediaTek has used 12nm FinFET fabrication process to ensure A22 deliver’s high performance with greater power efficiency.

The Helio A22 is compatible with both LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 RAM. As per Mediatek, the Helio A22 supports displays up to HD+ resolutions (1600 x 720 pixels) with screen aspect ratios of up to 20:9.

In addition, the A-series chipset supports CorePilot technology, light edge AI and NeuroPilot programme. All these fancy teams mean that the Helio A22 will support Android Neural Network API. Face ID (Face Unlock), Smart Photo album, and advanced single-camera or dual-camera Bokeh effects.

The Helio A22 ISP supports dual-camera setup of up to 13MP+8MP, or single-camera configurations up to 21MP. That’s not all, the Helio A22 SoC is claimed to offer much improved low-light performance with multi-frame noise reduction, and provide a clear-image zoom technology.

As for connectivity, the Helio A22 support dual SIM 4G with VoLTE/ViLTE capabilities. It comes with company’s 4G LTE WorldMode modem, that supports Cat-7 4G LTE. It also includes GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, as well as Bluetooth 5.0 compatibility.
