MediaTek, one of the leading chipset makers in the world, is betting big on the artificial intelligence. The company claims that one out of every three smartphones sold in India is powered by a MediaTek mobile platform, and its latest generation AI-driven chips are quickly changing the manner we all interact with our phones.
During the first AI forum, MediaTek is working with OEM partners like Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Infinix, and service providers bring artificial intelligence to smartphones in India.
Speaking at the event, Mediatek General Manager (Wireless Communication) TL Lee said the company is “enabling the future of AI by creating an ecosystem of Edge-AI hardware processors across its product range — from smartphones to smart homes, wearables, IoT and connected cars”.
He also spoke about Mediatek’s chips Edge-AI feature which uses AI algorithms and machine learning at the smartphone itself rather than a remote cloud server. Edge AI ensures that the user data and privacy doesn’t get invaded at any given point in time.
MediaTek ‘Helio P60 and Helio P22’ are few of the new chips that include dedicated CPU, GPU and APU cores. The Helio P60 chip has received good response from the customers in India and company aims to further consolidate its position in India with Helio P22 chip which is expected to feature in a number of upcoming budget devices from various brands.
In both the Helio P22 and Helio P60 MediaTek has used its NeuroPilot technology, the AI capabilities are embedded on at CPU, GPU and APU processing units. While the CPU and GPU are commonly used MediaTek designed APU for tasks like object tracking, scene detection, image and video object recognition intelligently without consuming too much power.
At MediaTek’s first AI forum, partners like Facebook and Google also talked about how they are using AI to take the user experience to the next level with vision applications, accurate translations, etc.
