MediaTek has launched it’s Helio G90 and G90T mobile chipsets targeted at gaming phones. They come with octa-core CPUs, accompanied with up to 10GB of RAM, AI enhancements and the proprietary HyperEngine gaming technology. Xiaomi will be one of the first to launch an Helio G90-series powered phone.
MediaTek Helio G90 and G90T features
The G90 series employs Arm Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 octa-core CPUs maxing up to 2.05GHz clock speed. This is aided by Arm Mali-G76 GPU with speeds up to 800MHz and a “large” L3 cache. Its a 64-bit processor with heterogeneous multi-processing support. Helio G90 and G90T phones will be able to support up to 10GB of LPDDR4x RAM (2133MHz).
company’s HyperEngine technology will channel the performance and network speeds for enhanced gameplay.
It also sports HDR10 and lag-free touchscreen input for low-latent gaming instance.
When it comes to connectivity, there is an advanced Cat-12 4G LTE WorldMode modem for dual 4G SIM support across 175 cellular operators worldwide. It also has dual-band wifi support. There is an intelligent network prediction engine that in theory auto connects to LTE connection when Wi-Fi is weak. There is support for HD voice and video calling (VoLTE / ViLTE) as well.
The G90 chips support the popular 48MP as well as the upcoming 64MP cameras with seamless real-time previews and a dedicated ‘night shot’ mode. Use of quad-pixel technology should benefit in low-light photography.
It vaunts fast, accurate AI facial detection and the enhanced AI-camera applications. MediaTek highlights the support for various camera modes like HDR, ultra-wide, telescopic or depth-mapping.
In the age of AI assistants, MediaTek has future-proofed this chip with Dual ‘Wake-Up’ feature. This lets you summon your Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa using more than one trigger word.
