Over the last few months, smartphone manufacturers have announced quite a few gaming smartphones aimed at hardcore gamers. Now, Asus has also joined this elite list with Asus ROG Phone that went official at Computex 2018 in Taipei. For this gaming device, Asus is using the brand name of its popular gaming laptops – Republic of Gamers aka ROG. Along with a powerful smartphone, Asus also announced a range of gaming accessories that includes a mobile-to-desktop dock, a TwinView dock, a WiGig dock, and a third-party add-on controller. All in all, the Asus ROG Phone makes a promising first impression and it could a perfect gaming smartphone for gamers.
Asus ROG Phone Features
The ASUS ROG Phone houses a 6-inch AMOLED full HD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate and 108 percent DCI-P3 gamut support. As per the company, the ROG Phone display has 1ms pixel response time and offers blur-free gaming experience.
The ASUS gaming phone comes wit overclocked version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile processor which is clocked at 2.96GHz making it fastest Android smartphone in the market. The CPU will be accompanied by 8GB of RAM and an Adreno 630 GPU. Asus has announced that the phone will be offered in two storage options – 128GB and 512GB.

The ASUS ROG Phone camera hardware includes a 12MP + 8MP dual rear camera setup and an 8MP selfie camera. The hardcore gamers will be able to enjoy dual front-firing stereo speakers with smart amplifier, 7.1 virtual surround-sound on DTS Headphones. The phone also supports Qualcomm’s aptX codec for high-definition audio on wireless Bluetooth headphones.
The ROG phone is packed with a 4,000mAh battery which comes bundled with an ASUS HyperCharge based ROG Phone power adapter. The USP of this charger it that it uses a direct-charge technology that can deliver up to 20W of power for fast charging.
Other noteworthy specs of the ROG phone include an X20 LTE modem that can deliver up to 1.2Gbps Cat 18 LTE download speeds and supports 4×4 MIMO technology. It also features USB Type 3.1 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Asus ROG Phone Accessories: TwinView Dock, WiGig Dock, and GameVice Controller
Asus ROG TwinView Dock: This additional accessory will let the user enjoy gaming on dual screen. The secondary screen is identical to the phone’s screen. The dock also contains a front-facing quad-speaker system, two physical trigger keys, and a dual-haptic force-feedback engine. The TwinView dock comes with an enhanced cooling system that keeps the phone cool even after an extended gaming session. The dock also features a 6,000mAh extended battery pack.
Asus ROG Mobile Desktop Dock: Like Samsung’s DeX platform, the Asus ROG Mobile Desktop Dock also lets you connect the ROG Phone to an external 4K UHD monitor, mouse, keyboard, Gigabit Ethernet, 5.1-channel speakers, and USB peripherals to their mobile gaming experience.
Asus ROG Gamevice Controller: Asus in partnership with third-party developer GameVice has developed a controller that lets you use the phone as a handheld gaming console. The Gamevice Controller features joysticks and gaming buttons.
Asus ROG Phone Price and Availability
ASUS is yet to reveal the ROG phone price and availability details. Since the phone has top of the line specs, we expect Asus to offer it at a steep price.
