Apple’s response to unhappy customers, following the recent price hikes in India, isn’t a price rollback (but wouldn’t that be amazing). Instead, the company has a new cashback offer, one that’s tied to specific bank cards. It does bring down the effective price of the MacBooks, but not to the level they were before Apple increased the prices.

Apple India’s New Cashback Offers On MacBooks
Buyers using eligible American Express, Axis Bank, or ICICI Bank cards can get up to ₹15,000 instant cashback on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. On the other hand, they can get ₹9,000 on the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air (review).

Even after the cashback, both models remain considerably more expensive than their original launch prices. The MacBook Pro M5 is still up by ₹55,000, and the MacBook Air M5 by ₹21,000, cashback included.

Other smaller cashback amounts ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 also apply across the MacBook Neo, iMac, Mac Studio, and Mac mini. Apple is also pairing these offers with up to six months of No Cost EMI on eligible purchases, and continues to extend education pricing for students and teachers.
I think this is Apple doing what it typically does when prices rise, and customers push back: offering a partial, card-gated concession rather than a genuine correction.
