Has it ever happened that a song got stuck in your mind but you can’t recall which song it is or the name? Well, if that has ever happened to you (and it should to the majority of the readers), the YouTube Music app on Android is pushing out a new feature that lets you simply ‘hum’ and search for a song.
I know that it sounds similar to Google Assistant app, however, with YouTube Music getting a native feature, this takes it to the next level. Once the feature is available publicly letting you ‘hum a tune’ instead of scrambling through the internet trying to find the name of the song.

To access this, simply go to the YouTube Music app, tap on the new waveform icon just next to the microphone under the ‘search’ button, and hum. YouTube Music should be able to gather inputs from the hum and recognize the song using algorithms under the hood. Google is attempting to replace Shazam although it still requires a lot of refining before it reaches the optimal accuracy.

When tested on five songs across different languages, I found four songs accurately and that’s not at all a bad thing for sure. For now, you can hum, you can sing whistle, or do anything on your Android phone and it should be able to find it ASAP. Of course, there are some hits and misses too but yes, it works and searches faster especially compared to a similar feature on Google Assistant that has been here for a few years. We have spotted the ‘hum to search’ feature on the YouTube Music app for iOS too but that would require some waiting.
