Qualcomm just dropped big news: the Snapdragon Summit 2024 is happening from October 21–23 in Maui, Hawaii. The tagline for the event is “The stars are aligning.” This year, all eyes are on the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is set to be a game-changer for upcoming flagship smartphones. That said, Qualcomm might also announce other things at the event.

Expect to see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in top-tier devices like the Xiaomi 15 series, iQOO 13 series, OnePlus 13, and the Galaxy S25 series. Leaks suggest this chip will outshine its predecessor, the 8 Gen 3, in a big way. Early reports from Digital Chat Station claim it can handle heavy games like Genshin Impact at 1080p, a notable bump from the 720p max of the 8 Gen 3.

The first device to sport this powerhouse? Likely the Xiaomi 15 series, followed by other big names like OnePlus, iQOO, realme, and Samsung.

What makes the 8 Gen 4 special? It’s built on TSMC’s 3nm process, promising better performance and efficiency. Clock speeds might jump from 3.3 GHz to a whopping 4 GHz, or even 4.26 GHz. Leaked benchmarks of the chip reveal a significant leap in performance (3,500 single-core performance in Geekbench), matching Apple’s upcoming A18.

Plus, the architecture is rumored to evolve from 1 + 3 + 4 to 2 + 6. This means it might be time to say goodbye to the efficiency cores on the 8 Gen 4. The main concern with such a change could be the battery life.

Speaking of which, the power-hungry nature of the 8 Gen 4 means we’ll see phones packing 5,500 or 6,000 mAh batteries to keep up. The OnePlus 13, iQOO 13, and other 8 Gen 4 devices are all rumored to feature a 5,500 or 6,000 mAh battery.

On the memory front, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will support LPDDR6 RAM, stepping up from the already fast LPDDR5X.

That’s the scoop for now. What are your thoughts on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4? Excited? Drop your comments below!
