At the Redmi 8 and 8A launch event in China, the Xiaomi GM Lu Weibing revealed the Redmi K30. So this is going to be the long-rumored Redmi 5G phone. The presentation slide also gave us a glimpse of its punch-hole display. It resembles the Infinity-O cutout on the Samsung Galaxy S10+ (review).

Back in August, via his Weibo account, Weibing had confirmed the arrival of the Redmi K20 successor. He had brought to our knowledge that this will be the first Redmi phone with dual 5G support. This will be full Netcom 5G! Ergo, it’s expected to bear the upcoming Qualcomm 7250 SoC which is equipped with dual-mode 5G.

But, what do dual 5G and full Netcom 5G means, right?

Precisely, devices can solely stick to SA (Standalone) mode or work on NSA (non-standalone) mode. In the former, devices will work only on the 5G network infrastructure, laid by networking and telecom giants across the globe. On the other hand, in case of NSA networking, the device could leverage the existing 4G infrastructure for certain tasks such as communication between cell towers and servers.

In an interview with RCR Wireless News, Dean Brenner, Qualcomm’s senior vice president of spectrum strategy and technology policy, explained Dual Connectivity as – “The aggregate data rate that the phone can achieve is the sum of the 4G speed plus the 5G speed.”

This will be beneficial for better connectivity during the nascent stage. Especially, it will be convenient and cheaper for 5G deployment in new areas.

Speaking of cost, Weibing gave a heads up that the K30 isn’t going to be the most affordable 5G phone. That said, it will still adhere to the cost-effective pricing, being a Redmi phone.
