In its latest beta update, Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is testing Chat Filters. The feature will enable users to access personal and group chats separately by creating dedicated menus. Although the feature is currently in the app’s beta version, it should roll out soon to everyone.

A New Look For WhatsApp On Android

The messaging app is experimenting with Chat Filter on WhatsApp beta for Android. It is part of a major overhaul that contains a new font for the app’s logo and a redesigned user interface with a white background. While the app doesn’t seem to have finalized the update, Chat Filters and a couple of other features are likely to make it to the stable version for everyone.

In the beta version, Chat Filters appear at the top of the inbox menu, allowing users to select from different types of messages on the app, including All, Unread, Contacts, and Groups. Users can find a chat in less time by choosing a particular type of conversation. Selecting the “Unread” filter will show the messages that you haven’t checked already, while “Contacts” and “Groups” will show conversations with your contacts and the groups you are a part of, respectively.

In the previous update, WhatsApp had Personal and Business filters instead of Contacts and groups. Since the app is still refining the design and the overall experience, the update could take a while before rolling out to users. Generally, WhatsApp provides a similar experience on Android and iOS, so the update should also be available to iOS users sooner or later.

A latest report also suggests that the platform is working on Tab Swiping, a feature that allows users to switch WhatsApp tabs by swiping from the corners of the screen. However, since the feature doesn’t follow Google’s Material Design 3 standards, whether WhatsApp will retain or let it go is unclear.
