TL; DR
  • WhatsApp is testing notification bubbles for Android users in the latest beta update.
  • The feature lets chats appear as floating bubbles that can open small reply windows over other apps.
  • It is currently limited to beta users and may reach the stable version later.

WhatsApp is now testing notification bubbles for Android users in its latest beta release. The new feature brings floating chat bubbles that stay on screen and let users reply to messages without fully opening the app.

How It Works

Once available, incoming messages from personal chats or groups can appear as small circular bubbles on the screen. Users can move the bubble anywhere, tap it to open a compact chat window, reply directly, or dismiss it when finished.

The feature uses Android’s bubble notification system, which was introduced in Android 11. It is designed for quicker replies while using other apps such as browsers, video apps, or games.

Beta Availability

To access it, users need to be enrolled in the WhatsApp Beta program on Android and update to the latest beta version through the Google Play Store. Availability may vary, since WhatsApp is still testing the rollout and not all beta users may see it immediately.

This update follows user demand for better multitasking and more flexible notifications on Android. Similar floating chat systems have already been available in apps like Telegram and Microsoft Teams.

There is no confirmed date for the stable release yet, though the feature is expected to expand after beta testing is complete.
