TL; DR
- MediaTek confirms the Dimensity 9600 Pro will launch in China on September 15 at 2:30 PM local time.
- It’s expected to be MediaTek’s first chip built on TSMC’s 2nm N2P process, with hardware ray tracing.
- Leaked benchmarks suggest single-core Geekbench scores around 4,200-4,300, rivaling Apple’s silicon.
For years, MediaTek has followed a relatively simplified naming scheme for its flagship chip lineup. Last year, the company unveiled the Dimensity 9500 as its top-tier silicon for Android smartphones, without any ‘Pro’ or ‘Elite’ in the name. This was also true for the Dimensity 9400 chip that arrived the previous year.
This year, the company could change that. Earlier today, MediaTek confirmed the launch date for its upcoming chip: the Dimensity 9600 Pro. It breaks cover on September 15, 2026, i.e., in a week from today. As the name suggests, the chipset will be MediaTek’s first ‘Pro’ chip. Nomenclature aside, it will also be MediaTek’s first 2nm mobile silicon.

What MediaTek Has Actually Confirmed So Far
The reveal takes place at 2:30 PM China time, which is 12:00 PM IST (noon). Following the September launch, you should see the Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset appear on smartphones like the Vivo V500 Pro Max and the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max later this year.
Beyond the launch date, the company’s teasers focus on gaming. Expect AI-assisted GPU rendering built directly into the GPU pipeline, an upgraded Star Speed Engine that assists the silicon, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. On the camera side, 4K recording at 120fps is confirmed, which current-generation chipsets can also manage.

What’s Likely Under the Hood
While MediaTek hasn’t confirmed the deeper cluster design or core architecture, the leak trail is unusually consistent this year. Multiple sources point to a 2+3+3 CPU layout (suggesting an octa-core chipset), with two “Canyon Ultra” prime cores hitting 5.0GHz, paired with LPDDR6 memory (the latest generation that doubles bandwidth).
Early Geekbench 6 single-core estimates hover around 4,200-4,300 points. If accurate, that would put MediaTek within shouting distance of Apple’s silicon on raw single-thread performance.

| Process Node | TSMC 2nm (N2P) | TSMC 2nm (N2P) |
| CPU Layout | 2+3+3, prime cores up to 5.0GHz | 2+3+3, Oryon V4 cores up to 5.01GHz |
| Memory | LPDDR6 (rumored) | LPDDR6 / LPDDR5X support |
| Estimated Geekbench 6 Single-Core | ~4,200–4,300 | ~4,400–4,600 |
| Video Recording | 4K @ 120fps (confirmed) | 8K @ 60fps / 4K @ 120fps |
| Key Gaming Features | AI GPU rendering, hardware ray tracing | Adreno 850 GPU, AI Frame Fusion |
| First Phones | Vivo X500 Pro, Vivo X500 Pro Max | iQOO 16 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro, OnePlus 14 Pro |
What’s notable is the chip’s launch schedule. It arrives roughly a week before Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, where the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and its own Pro variant are expected. Between the 2nm node, the LPDDR6 support, and benchmark numbers that would embarrass some recent flagships, this feels less like an incremental Dimensity refresh and more like MediaTek genuinely closing the credibility gap.
