The entry-level smartphone segment has caught fire with the launch of two new smartphones: the vivo Y29 5G and the Realme 14x 5G. Both phones offer similar specifications at a comparable price. However, there are a few key differences, which, when ignored, can trouble the buyer in the long term. Hence, here’s a detailed comparison between the smartphones to help you make an informed decision and get the best value for your money.
Vivo Y29 5G Vs. Realme 14x 5G: Design
Dimensions

- Vivo Y29 5G: 76.1 x 165.75 x 8.1 mm
- Realme 14x 5G: 76.22 x 165.7 x 7.94 mm
In terms of design, both phones have a similar look and feel. However, there are a few things that set them apart. For instance, the vivo Y29 5G has slightly thicker bezels around the screen (along with a broader chin at the bottom), while the Realme 14x seems to have contained the bezels a little better.
There’s a vertically-placed rectangular camera setup on the plastic rear panel (on both phones) with a textured finish. Otherwise, the buttons, charging port, microphone, and speaker placement remain the same on both smartphones.
Durability
Both the vivo Y29 5G and the Realme 14x comply with the MIL-STD-810H standard, which should instill some confidence among buyers. Both companies claim that the models feature toughened corners for added protection against drops.
However, while the vivo Y29 5G is rated IP64, the Realme 14x carries a superior IP69 dust and water resistance rating. Realme claims that the phone can survive exposure to hot water or complete submersion. Even so, buyers shouldn’t misuse their devices and take these readings more as an assurance.
Colors

- Vivo Y29 5G: Glacier Blue, Titanium Gold, Diamond Black
- Realme 14x 5G: Jewel Red, Crystal Black, Golden Glow
Purely from a design perspective, the Realme 14x has the upper hand in this comparison.

Vivo Y29 5G Vs. Realme 14x 5G: Screen

Out of the box, the vivo Y29 5G offers a 6.68-inch IPS LCD screen that supports a refresh rate of 120Hz and a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits (high-brightness mode). Further, the display has a pixel density of 264 ppi.
In comparison, the Realme 14x has a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen that supports a 120Hz refresh rate but has a peak brightness of 625 nits (high-brightness mode). The pixel density, however, remains the same at 264 ppi.
Moreover, the Y29 5G has a significantly brighter screen, which should help while using the phone outdoors or in brightly lit rooms.
Vivo Y29 5G Vs. Realme 14x 5G: Performance

Under the hood, both phones run on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 (6nm) processor, which features two 2.4 GHz performance cores and six 2.0 GHz efficiency cores. The chipset is combined with the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU alongside up to 8G of LPDDR4X RAM.
The storage, however, differs on both phones. While vivo Y29 5G offers up to 256GB of storage (eMMC 5.1), the Realme 14x only has 128GB of storage (UFS 2.2). It is important to mention that UFS 2.2 is the faster of the two, implying that files or apps will open a bit faster when compared to the execution time on eMMC 5.1.
For those catching up, Dimensity 6300 (6nm) came out in April 2024. It is one of the better entry-level SoCs in the market, which scores around 420K points on AnTuTu 10 and around 782/2,012 points in the single/multi-core performance test on GeekBench 6.
Moreover, the phones offer similar performance. Running multiple apps at once or recording high-resolution videos shouldn’t be a problem on either of the devices. The 4GB vivo Y29 5G variant, however, isn’t what we’ll recommend to anyone who is on the market for a new smartphone in 2025.
