Upcoming Cars In September 2025: Maruti Escudo, Citroen Basalt X, VinFast VF 7, And Others

Every month, we compile all the upcoming launches in the smartphone and auto industry so you don’t miss out on what’s around the corner. While my colleague Mehtab took care of the smartphone launches in September, here’s a roundup of the car launches you can expect this month. This will provide a quick snapshot of the most anticipated auto launches in September, allowing you to stay informed and plan your purchases accordingly.

Maruti Escudo

• Launch Date: September 3, 2025

For months, Maruti Suzuki has been working on a new compact SUV positioned between the sub-4 meter Brezza and the Grand Vitara. Although the automaker hasn’t confirmed the name of the vehicle, it could be called “Escudo.” The car should be available via Maruti’s Arena showrooms.

Although the information about the vehicle’s underpinnings is limited, reports suggest that it could be based on the company’s C platform, but with a longer-than-usual wheelbase (for a spacious cabin). While the exterior and interior of the vehicle may differ from those of existing models, it could draw inspiration from Maruti’s e-Vitara. 

Under its hood, the Maruti Escudo could feature a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine (also featured on the Brezza), along with a mild-hybrid assist system, or what Maruti Suzuki calls a Smart Hybrid system. 

With new styling and slightly premium styling, the vehicle will take on rivals like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. We’ve also heard chatter about the vehicle’s price, suggesting it could be more affordable than the Grand Vitara, with an expected starting price of around Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Citroen Basalt X

• Launch Date: September 5, 2025 (Expected)

The French automaker Citroen is also gearing up to unveil a new top-end trim for its coupe-SUV, Basalt. Booking of the variant is already underway, and it could launch on September 5, 2025, according to several reports.

Although the car will carry the same engine as the rest of the lineup — a 1.2L three-cylinder turbo petrol engine — it should offer several new features. The cosmetic upgrades could include a new dashboard pattern and the AC vents, as well as new black upholstery for the interior, 360-degree cameras, and ambient lighting. 

However, aside from these changes, the car should remain mostly unchanged.

VinFast VF6 & VF7

• Launch Date: September 6, 2025

Following the launch of the Maruti Escudo on September 5, 2025, the Vietnamese automaker VinFast will take the center stage on September 6, revealing the VF6 and the VF7. We’ve been hearing about the company’s plans to enter the Indian auto market (which happens to be the world’s third-largest at the moment), but this is official. 

While the VF6 measures 4.23 meters, the VF7 is significantly bigger at 4.5 meters. The electric SUVs should offer features such as a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, ventilated seats, and Level 2 ADAS (likely on higher trims). The former could be priced in India around Rs. 20-25 lakhs, while the latter could cost upward of Rs. 30 lakhs (ex-showroom).

According to reports, the VF6 will feature a 59.6 kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 480 kilometers (WLTP) when paired with a 204 hp FDW powertrain. The VF7 should feature a larger 70.8 kWh battery pack, providing a range of 450 and 431 kilometers (WLTP) when paired with FWD and 350 hp AWD powertrains, respectively.

Mahindra Thar Facelift

• Launch Date: Early September

Mahindra’s three-door Thar could get a mid-generation facelift soon. While the facelift won’t introduce any major changes to the vehicle or its underpinnings, it should still feature some minor changes, most of which will be inspired by the Thar Roxx. 

For instance, the Mahindra Thar facelift could feature a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Aside from that, the vehicle should retain its engine options (including a petrol and a diesel engine) paired with their respective transmissions, and the two-wheel or four-wheel powertrain options.

With the facelift, Mahindra could also increase the price of the three-door Thar, but it won’t be a major revision.

Volvo EX30 

• Launch Date: Late September

Positioned below the Volvo EX40, the EX30 is the company’s smallest EV. Like its contemporary rivals, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Sealion 7, and the BMW iX1 LWB, the Volvo EX30 offers a minimalist interior (following a two-tone color theme), a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a fixed panoramic sunroof, and ADAS features. 

Under its hood, the vehicle will feature a 69 kWh battery pack that provides a WLTP-claimed driving range of 480 kilometers. In terms of power, the single-motor setup (mounted on the rear axle) produces 272 hp of peak power and 343 Nm of peak torque.
