TL; DR
- Tensor G5’s leaked Geekbench score is disappointing: 1323 for single-core and 4004 for multi-core.
- Core setup: 1x Cortex-X4 at 3.4 GHz, 4x Cortex-A720 at 2.86 GHz, 2x Cortex-A520 at 2.44 GHz.
- The chip will be built on TSMC’s 3mm N3E process.
Early leaks on Google’s upcoming Tensor G5 processor suggest it may struggle to compete in the flagship segment, potentially making it a tough sell for 2025. A freshly leaked Geekbench score is circulating on the internet and the results are rather disappointing.
Disappointing Geekbench Score Circulates Online
The G5 scores just 1323 in single-core and 4004 in multi-core performance, which lags significantly behind the latest Snapdragon, MediaTek, and Apple chips. In fact, it’s even behind the older Snapdragon, MediaTek, and Apple chips.
Google’s choice to go with 1x Cortex-X4 at 3.4 GHz in a 1+5+2 core setup is probably the most apparent reason for the abysmally low score. Tensor G5’s highest clock speed is lower than the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s lowest clock speed.
Alongside the Cortex-X4 is a mix of 4x Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.86 GHz and 2x Cortex-A520 cores at 2.44 GHz. There’s also 12 GB RAM, which as per the previous leak, is LPDDR5X-8533 RAM.
The Tensor G5 will be built on TSMC’s 3nm (N3E) process, shifting away from Samsung’s fabrication in an attempt to potentially improve thermal management. While this change might help with overheating issues, the performance bump may be just modest, at least as per this leaked benchmark.
While the Geekbench scores don’t give us any information on the GPU, an earlier leak suggested that the Tensor G5 would be using a dual-core DXT-48-1536 GPU running at 1,100 MHz. This GPU will bring ray tracing and GPU virtualization, which adds some impressive graphics features

In terms of AI, the Tensor G5 would get a 40% boost in performance on paper, but real-world benchmarks suggest the improvement may actually be closer to 14%. This modest jump could mean the G5 will struggle with more demanding AI-based applications and large on-device language models.
Given the competitive advancements in AI from companies like Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple, Google’s positioning with the G5 may feel a step behind, especially with that poor performance.
Can Tensor G5 Justify the Pixel 10’s Price?
For a device likely to be priced at around ₹80,000 or more, this chip might struggle to justify the cost. It’s worth noting that the Tensor G5 should be able to manage everyday tasks smoothly, just like every other Pixel.
Some fans argue that the leaked Geekbench score is of a very early testing unit and that it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, inless significant improvements are made before launch, the Tensor G5 would make the Pixel 10 series a hard sell.
