We are ten months away from the big Apple launch next September but that hasn’t stopped updates from floating in. This comes from two credible sources according to whom, we could see an increase in screen size on iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max as earlier mentioned by Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to get larger displays
According to tipster Revengus, the next-gen iPhone 16 will carry a 6.12-inch LTPS 60Hz display while the iPhone 16 Plus gets a 6.69-inch LTPS 60Hz panel. For the unversed, these are the exact sizes that current-gen iPhone 15 and 15 Plus carry. There will be some partial improvements to the Dynamic Island although unsurprisingly, all four models will sport the new notch.
Moving on to the iPhone 16 Pro series, the iPhone 16 Pro gets a larger 6.3-inch LTPO display with a dynamic refresh rate of 1-120Hz. Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.1-inch LTPO panel which goes on to show an increase of 0.2-inch which is colossal when it comes to screen real estate.
The largest of the iPhones, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will see a 0.2-inch increase from a 6.7-inch to 6.9-inch LTPO panel with a dynamic refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The tipster has mentioned some general improvements in the display components which remains to be confirmed.
iPhone 16 Series to get 3nm A18 Pro Chipset
If speculations are to be believed, the entire iPhone 16 line-up is en route to get a 3nm A18 Pro chipset. It is unlike the 2022 and 2023 line-up where the Pro models get the latest chips while non-Pro models resort to chips made for last year’s Pro models. For instance, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus use the A16 chipset made for iPhone 16 Pro. Similarly, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus use the same chipset as the iPhone 13 Pro series.
Take it with a pinch of salt since we will have to wait for a long time to get any confirmation on the same. We are doubting it’s true so we would stick with what Apple has been cooking for the last two generations.
iPhone 16 Pro Battery spotted with a metal finish
A self-proclaimed Apple collector @KosutamiSan on X posted a photo showing the ‘early stage’ prototype of what appears to be the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery. It shows a glossy metal shell on top and has a capacity of 3,355mAh. If true, we are looking at a battery that will be 2.5% larger than the iPhone 15 Pro (3,274mAh) with a redesigned connector and metal shell.
A few days ago, reports claimed Apple is testing a new graphene thermal system for the upcoming iPhone 16 series. It would help dissipate heat which was a major concern on the iPhone 15 series that would get hot as high as 116° F when using certain apps. The metal shell can help with faster heat dissipation all while giving some more time on the battery life given the size. iPhone batteries have been getting bigger such as iPhone 15 is 4.6% larger than iPhone 14 and so on.
