The Google Pixel 9 series launched a couple of weeks ago, and we’re still discovering cool new features. One of the most intriguing is Adaptive Touch, a feature not mentioned during Google’s keynote it is present in the setting menus.
What’s Adaptive Touch?
Adaptive Touch can be found under Settings > Display > Touch Sensitivity. When activated, it automatically adjusts your phone’s touch sensitivity based on your environment, activities, and even if you’re using a screen protector.
This means your Pixel 9 can better handle conditions like wet fingers, snow, or even different textures when you’re using a screen protector. The best part is that Google turns on this feature by default on every Pixel 9.

Real-World Usage
I tested my Pixel 9 with wet fingers and the Adaptive Touch feature was definitely making a difference. Android Authority also tested Adaptive Touch, comparing it to the Pixel 8 Pro, which doesn’t have this feature. The Pixel 9 handled wet fingers impressively well.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to test the feature with a screen protector on, since it’s too early to get a screen protector for my Pixel 9. Still, the feature is expected to enhance touch responsiveness even with a screen protector on.
Nonetheless, if you’re having touch sensitivity issues with a screen protector, you can turn on the screen protector mode. Just head to Settings > Display > Touch sensitivity > Screen protector mode and give it a try.
