Tata Harrier EV is gaining a lot of attention in the Indian car scene. Ever since its showcase in the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year or the car’s launch last month, the hype around the Tata Harrier EV is quite substantial.
Naturally, given the interest, people are asking a lot of questions about the car, mainly centered around what is good about the car and what isn’t. And since we at Smartprix have experienced the Tata Harrier EV, in this article we will give you 5 reasons to buy the Tata Harrier EV and 3 reasons not to buy.
Reasons to buy:
-Performance
The Tata Harrier EV comes with a dual motor setup and up to a 75kWh battery which produces 390 bhp of power and 504 Nm of torque. This allows the Harrier EV to go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.3 seconds! Having an AWD system further fuels the performance traits of the Harrier EV, allowing the car to take on different terrains and environments.
-Range
Along with power, the Tata Harrier EV is also offering good range. The car is available in two battery options – a 65 kWh battery and a 75 kWh battery. The 65 kWh battery offers 538 kilometers of claimed range, while the 75 kWh battery pack is claimed to offer up to 622 kilometers of range.
-AWD
Tata Harrier has always been the car that will really benefit with a 4×4 or AWD system. Well, Tata listened and we got that in the Harrier EV. The Tata Harrier EV has a QWD variant, which offers an all-wheel-drive for those who want to take their cars off-roading.
-Features (Highlight key assist, transparent mode, in-car UPI)
Now we all know Tata offers one of the best price-to-features ratios in the whole market in India. With the Harrier EV, the brand went a step ahead in terms of offering convenience and safety features for users. The best and most important one that I found was the dual-dashcam feature. The Harrier EV comes with in-built dashcam – booth front and back. Other interesting features include remote parking assist, allowing you to park the car from its key, transparency mode which shows what is under your car, and in-car UPI. The Harrier EV is also the first mainstream car to come with a Samsung QLED display for an infotainment display.
-Build quality
As with every Tata car in the current generation, the Harrier EV is also a very well-built car. During the launch, Tata showcased the car’s durability by trying to crush it with two metal containers or dropping the car from a crane, in order to demonstrate the build quality. The Harrier EV’s ICE sibling, the Tata Harrier is also rated 5-stars in the NCAP safety ratings.
Reasons not to buy:
-AWD limited to top variant
The only thing that I didn’t like here is that Tata is offering the AWD drivetrain with just one top-end variant with a 75 kWh battery. While it makes sense in terms of the price point, I am pretty sure there will be users who will want an AWD drivetrain with the 65 kWh battery pack. But there is no option, only in the 75 kWh battery pack.
-Bad fit and finish
As with pretty much every Tata car, there is always that one lingering doubt about the fit and finish. With the Harrier EV, this doubt continues. According to online reviews, things have improved this time around, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
-Tata service experience is bad
Tata’s service experience is a hit or miss. There are many reports on vehicles being returned dirty, minimal cleaning despite paying for it, and a lack of transparent status updates during servicing. Users online have also complained about delays in getting their vehicles back. EV owners, especially, have criticised limited technical know-how, slow diagnostics, and even incidents of missing tools from their vehicles.
