As more and more smartphone manufacturers ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack, the demand for wireless alternatives will only rise. The accessories makers are leaving no stone unturned to make the most of this shift towards Bluetooth based headphones and earphones. Recently a popular accessory maker, TAGG, came up with its new in-ear Bluetooth headphone – Sports Plus – targeted towards fitness and sports enthusiasts who love to listen to music while sweating it out in the gym or the park. We have been testing this affordable pair of earbuds for a while now and here is what we have found.

Design and Comfort

The wireless in-ear headphone follows a minimalistic design philosophy that certainly grows on you with time. It comes with a flat tangle-free wire that is attached to earphone housing on both sides. TAGG has used premium grade metal to construct headphone housings. The tips of the earphone are of good quality and skin friendly.  The ear-tips are angled at 45-degree which ensures that they fit well in your ear. The in-earphone can be detached and replaced without much effort.

The in-earphone also has an in-line control with mic which is clearly laid out. There is Play /pause button which is also the power on and Bluetooth pairing button. It is flanked by volume plus and minus keys. All three of them offer good tactic feedback and you can easily recognize them even in dark with just a simple touch.

The in-line control panel also features a micro USB port for charging purpose but it is coved with a led. The earphone comes with nano-coating which makes its splash and sweat proof. TAGG has given a magnetic lock which secures the earphone to ensure that you don’t have to worry about losing them when they are not in use.

These headphones can block ambient noise when plugged in but they are not very comfortable over a long period of usage.

Specifications and Battery

TAGG has equipped it’s new Sports Plus wireless earphones with Bluetooth V4.1 which as per the company ke 20 feet. The makers also claim to be using Qualcomm’s CSR8645 chipset that will ensure crisp and clear output.

To keep the Sports Plus running, tag ads a 120mAh battery that lasted for around 6 hours of playback in our testing. That’s not all, 20 minutes of top-up can offer a couple of hour’s playback. It takes 2 hours to refill the battery from 0 to 100 percent.

TAGG Sports + Review With Pros and Cons

We extensively tested this TAGG in-earphones for good 10 odd days. The build quality good for its price and the carry case proves really handy while traveling. The controls were responsive and we had no difficulty in increasing and decreasing volume or skipping tracks forward or backward.

What’s really impressive is the setup process. It only takes two-step and the setup is done. The earphones offer a neutral sound signature without any clear biases. Unlike most budget earphones, it has been tuned well, the soundstage is accurate as beats don’t merge or overlap. The vocals are clear, the bass remains powerful enough for most tacks but a bit more punch would have been ideal.

Most of the time we had no difficulty in differentiating between instruments that were playing in a song. Overall, we are quite content (barring few plus and minus) with the performance of these budget drivers from TAGG. The coverage area and sound performance both justifies their price.
